Help me understand this!

I have a 6.5CM which came with a 22" threaded barrel. Most of the time, I shoot it with my Dead Air Nomad (14 oz) on it. It is accurate, reasonably quiet, and has no recoil. I could shoot it all day.

How could I improve it?
1) 18-20 in threaded barrel would give me a handier setup,
2) It would be slightly lighter to compensate for the weight of the suppressor,
3) I could easily recover the energy lost by the shorter barrel by switching to a more powerful cartridge like 270WSM or 6,8 Western.

When it shoot out the current barrel (I shoot it a lot), that is the way I will go.

Suppressor on a hunting rifle is not my cup of tea...I used a cheap factory 24" 338 Mag for everything grouse to elk 2-7X scope set on 2X for big game...worked for me, never let me down. I would never spend alot of money on a hunting gun. Save that for my target rifles. But others may love the ultra light. Suppressed, ultra short rifles , and spend tons of money on their less efficient SBR... and proclaim them great...and that's fine with me!...I have short barrels and long barrels. On short barrels, heavy bullets lose less velocity per inch than light bullets for the caliber, in my experience as I've chronographed them from 18" to 30" length barrels in 308, and velocity loss gets significant with lighter bullets, I prefer a 22" min in 308 for efficiency but have shorter barrels not for hunting, and nothing suppressed. One or two unprotected hearing shots a year in a 24" barrel will most likely have little effect on hearing over a 50 yr period. One shot, one kill, never feel the recoil of the 338 mag, and noise from one shot is not even bothersome, gut it and go home...but you're fine by me, if ya want to bring your 12" 50BMG gold plated & suppressed SBR on your hunting trip, complete with what ever you desire adoring it. It's your hunting trip and ya only live once.

Too much influence from the movies? In regards to suppressors? Have you shot rifles with one?

In regards to noise, shoot enough animals without hearing protection or a suppressor and "What" will be your favorite word.
Have I shot rifles with one? Yes but not my own. Been shooting for 64 years. Back in the day we didn’t know what ear plugs were. Shot deer, pheasant, grouse, rabbits, woodchucks, squirrels, rats, on and on and on with small caliber and large noisy guns. So yes, I lost some high frequency hearing. Other than that IT IS FINE.
Working on jet engines in the Air Force probably didn’t help either. Before you critique that I’ll tell you that the flight line is the hottest and the coldest place on earth at certain times and muffs/plugs don’t work out all the time. Is it advantageous to use a suppressor for sound abatement? Yes and No. I didn’t kill any game in my lifetime with subsonic centerfire ammo, which is really required if you want to “suppress” all noticeable sound. Is it required? No. Is it stylish? Oh Yes, it’s very stylish.

Greenyonline2,

I agree with most of what you said. I'm not a big suppressor nut on a hunting rifle either. They can throw a great feeling rifle out of balance in a hurry and they're dang expensive. However, there are pros and cons to everything. I put a Dead Air Sandman on my Tikka ,260. The recoil reduction and ability to see your hits is an eye-opener to say the least. As for the decibel reduction, you are right on when you say the sub sonics are required to suppress noticeable sound. But that is only in a perfect world. They do reduce the noise immensely even with super sonics. In my opinion, they make shooting fun regardless of the ridiculous cost of ownership.
Suppressors are not for everyone or every situation. I say, whatever floats your cork. Good luck shooting!

I have been using them on hunting rifles for probably 12years and cant imagine not using them when out hunting, his will be my next silencer for a stalking rifle
