Help me pick a powder for .223 and .243

I am getting ready to buy some powders for the 2 listed calibers to start reloading. In the .223 I will shoot from 55 grain blitzking bullets up to 69 grain matchkings. In the .243 I will shoot from 70 to 90 grain bullets. Will focus on 87 v-max and 90 grain bergers right now.

What are your favorites????

Right now I was kind of thinking of starting with 4350 on the .243 and Varget on the .223, but I'm open to advise.

I like RL15 in the 243. In the 223, there are a host of good powders. 748, Ball C, 2230, N133 all work good.

Individual guns have individual preferences. Go fishing till you find the magic combonation.

How about working with Varget in both the .223 and the .243? You seem to be flexible on bullet weight. I know some would consider Varget to slow in the .223, however you may end up with good developed loads for both and buy your powder for both with larger quantity of the same lot of powder. Good luck Lane

For the 223's, it's tough to beat H335 and WW748. Both of mine love 748. For the 243, I've had great luck with H414, WW760 and AA2700. -Al

I have always had the best luck with H-414, & H-4350, in my .243 application. My favorite powder in the .223 is H-335.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

H-4350 is hard to beat with 85-87gr bullets in the 243.

I use H-322 in my 223 but run 40gr V-Max's. Been hearing good things about Vit. N-133 and will try that next.

Varget is great in my 223 with 50 vmax and my best powder in 243 75 vmax. For heavier bullets H4350 is my best powder. H414, is also very good, for 100+ gr H1000 is very good

I found Varget in my .243 to be the most accurate behind the 70gr Nosler Ballistic Varmint. I run 42.7grs which gives me around 3450fps in my Sako AII Varmint,24inch heavy barrel) with sub 1/2 moa groups.

Regards,

Michael.

Useing 85 to 87 gr projectiles in the 243 i have found around the 44.8 grains of H4831 to be a very accurate load but start a little lower in your rifle mine is a Sako Forrester 1;10 twist.
