Help me decide a starting spot for 300 win mag 215 hybrid

Y’all help me out here, I have a 300 win mag it’s a Remington 700 CDL bedded into a Hs aluminum bedding block carbon stock torqued to 65 in lbs has a 20 moa badger rail, nightforce ultra light rings and a mark 4 Leupold 4.5-14x50 this monster isn’t even close with factory ammo to shooting the way I want. I just got a labradar today, and I’m trying to decide what to load..

I have 51 pieces of 1x fired hornady brass all neck turned lightly just to clean them up.

I have nosler 200 accubonds, and I have a box of 215 Berger hybrids.

I have Imr 4350, H4831, H1000, and Retumbo in my closet..

I only have 100 bullets and about a pound of each powder and don’t wanna waste nothing.

best guess range to start???

my gut says H1000 in the 75 grain range..

throw this poor hillbilly a bone please!

I think you are right on the line for twist rate, My Rem 7mms sendero actually is 1-9.25 doesn't shoot well with bullets needing 1/9 or faster.

I’m wondering how it’s shooting. I know you said not close presently to how you want. Bringing out the best potential with little waste I’d say use the Bergers you have but view that YouTube video on cloning the military round. The military really vetted its pick, for guns that can exceed SAAMI.

The A191 was upgraded as quoted from a good article. “The new Product Improved (PIP) cartridge was adopted as the Mk248Mod1 in October of 2008 and then was superseded in March of 2009 with Revision A which modified the test specifications to comply with SAAMI specifications instead of military specs. The specs indicate the use of non coated brass and match primers. The propellant is Hodgdon H1000 with flash reduction additives. The max Cartridge Overall Length (COL) is specified as 3.500″. The specified velocity at 70F is 2850 fps +/- 50 fps. The chamber pressures are to be no more than 68,100 PSI. There are also both 300 and 600 yard accuracy requirements using 10 round groups. The loads must average about 1 MOA at those ranges using ten, 10-shot groups. This is all done from a 24″ test barrel. Note that both the COL and pressures are ABOVE the SAAMI max specifications. SAAMI specifies 3.340″ for the max COL and 64,000 PSI for the max chamber pressures but since the Mk248Mod1 is intended for military rifles only, they decided that it was acceptable.”

I have these Remington 300’s like yours in HS and 40-X. I believe the CDL isn’t the heaviest barrel option and that usually carries an accuracy penalty. But even with the Sendero weight barrels and 40-X’s I just don’t compare close range groups to a .308 from the same gun, that is approaching half the powder charge because logic dictates identical bullets will be dispersed a little wider and taller from a 300 WM.

I don’t know what even close to shooting the way I want means but if it’s grouping wayyyy bad with factory ammo it’s only marginally going to get better with hand loads if it were me I would be looking at screws, bedding bore and scope before I wasted a bunch of components.

So I can figure 8, 2 shots and the third goes about 1.5” away with a 5 min cool down between shots.. I did get some h1000 at about 75.5 with the 200 nosler ab get into the 3/4” range for 5 shots with a 5 min cool down between all shots..

id really like to get these 215’s dialed in also. But I really am debating where to start.. do I go low around 73 or really invest in the 75 area..

Bedding is Devcon steel putty, it’s in an HS stock with the bedding block, torqued at 65 in lbs with a proto torque wrench the rings are night force ultra lights torqued to the rail.. the rail was torqued on and lock tighted with the blue removable strength. Scope is a new Leupold mark 4 4.5-14x it is a skinny barrel and I may be expecting to much but I just don’t wanna miss Bambi when I get out in the stand.

Ok,..... well 3/4” is plenty good imho for that type of setup although like all shooters I strive for better also. So with what you just told me I would definitely load the accubonds 3/4” is good enough for Bambi unless you’re planning 600 yd shots and accubonds are good hunting bullets burger hybrids are not good hunting bullets!... I shoot Burger 210 vlds in my .300wm and there extremely accurate!... load some more accubonds and play with seating depth and see what you get. What kind of velocity and es were you getting with 75.5 gr if H1000?... if extreme spread is good just play with seating depth to shrink that 3/4” to maybe 1/2 and good to go buddy.

I just bought the labradar today got it second hand, so I have no idea what the speed is
Just what I got on the paper..

So here’s the target from the other day bottom left is federal fusion 165 gr factory ammo. All others is hand loads, I didn’t get a pic of my best group because I had to leave the range to take my boy to baseball Practice and they weren’t gonna go cold for another 20 min..

Please let the uneducated masses of us on here know, how do we get "Poor" enough to afford that kit and then buy a labradar right after..

Personally I would think about selling the 300 Mag and get something in a 6MM, like a Dasher, or in 7MM...like a "tricked out" 284. You have a lot of coin tied up in a rifle that does not shoot any better than some bone stock ones.

swappin and trading started out by trading a marlin 60 just kept swapping up.. plus I skim a little off my allowance..

but really though you guys and these $5k plus rigs are middle of the road now, have you seen these gun works packages for $12,000
Unbelievable!

Only reason I got this pumpkin roller was to blast a Arkansas deer with.. I have a 6.5cm to heavy like 14lbs also have a 6.5-284 but it’s got a brake, and them little fragile bullets don’t do well in the brush and trees.. I’m gonna use a accubond for Arkansas, but ya never know in Texas I might get an opportunity to roll a big up around 5-600 yards and I just wanna hit him the accubond is a great bullet but is seems pretty wind drifty

I shoot 180 accubonds in my .300 winch. 80.0 grs H-1000 gives me 3025 fps. Killed 2 elk this last winter at 554 yds, one shot and dropped them in their tracks.
LOVE Accubonds !!!!

Pretty rough day at the range, I goofed up and shot my starting two loads and didn’t get data, and at one point at the 76 gr load the labradar disarmed itself so no data for that one either..
so I made a graph and it’s attached seems like 75-75.5 of H1000 is the sweet spot I loaded a few (3 each) and shot them at 200 yards and they appear to be around 1.5” so good enough for a skinny barreled hunting gun.
What’s funny is the nosler 200 grain accubond load is 75.5 gr of H1000.

At 78 grains of h1000 I got a sticky bolt and an ejector wipe.. so I’d say 77 grains is tops for the ole factory remmy

After shooting today I don’t believe that the rifle I have is capable of stabilizing a 200 gr or heavier bullet, I loaded some 175 match Kings with a load I used to use that was a good shooter in a heavy gun even with the 58 es and 25 sd I was stacking them in there at 5/8 to 3/4 inch.. it kills me because my load is single digits es/sd but I get 1.5” groups or larger with no predictability.
