Help me build all around

Long range tactical/hunting/target rifle. FPP, hunting, target. I have nothing yet. I want long range accuracy of course, flat shooting with least amount of wind drift would be a plus hear I believe), barrel life, weatherproof, can have long heavy barrel, to shoot prone from bipod or other rest even from bench.,i have short range, rifle, shotgun, pistol, & AR's) Give me your suggestions on every aspect of this project. Caliber, action, barrel, stock, bullets, brass, powders, dies, loading equipment, etc., etc. Explainations would also help of course. Would the 6.5 x 284 work for this? .308? .260? Run 'em by me.
Thanks,

a1shooter,

6BR or 6BRIMP are one of the best long range rounds you can get. Good barrel life to boot. Great on small game way out. I would go with 8 tw barrel for the heavy bullets.

If you are going for bigger game, then 308 would be your best. Great accuracy, great barrel, lots of bullets slection.

6.5 x 284 great long range round - barrel life sucks.

Gun - Action any of the custom's are good I have Hall, Stiller Diamondback, Bat.

Stock - fiberglass,weatherproof)

Barrel any of the top are good, I have Lilja hart, and Krieger.

Berger are the best long range bullets, Sierria next.

check out the guns of the week 64, i believe. rick, don't remember his last name, had a real impressive 7wsm. it was shooting great at out to a 1000 yards and was a hunting rifle. hey mark, berger are the best bullets and sierra next is a pretty bold statement, you still have to find what shoots best in YOUR rifle and it might just be a smk.:)a1shooter, what do you want to hunt and how much do you plan to shoot??? good luck cliffe

Cliffe,

You are right, you need to see want will shoot in your gun. For me I start with the Berger and go from there. Berger's have been very good to me. I have shot 3 IBS 600 yds benchrest records - all with Berger 6mm 105 VLD's. And the same bullets holds all current records IBS 600 LG & HG. And when all but one, when the pending IBS 600 records are scored next month. Sierra's have had there share but, not at this time. Sierra makes a Great long range bullets!

a1shooter,

I like to start with a know bullet that performs well. With a new gun you are going with, you may need to try them all. The first gun that I built, I wore it out trying to get that majic bug hole group. When I got one, I wanted one smaller. Good luck with your gun.

Target range 1000yds. Hunting around 500yds max depending upon the gun and shooters capability, mostly for whitetail and wild hogs. Also FPD.

hello,I'd give the 260 rem a try. It'll shoot all that you are asking.or even the 243 Ackley improved.low recoil easey on the barrel.you can load for it really resonable also.I would use the rem.700 action with a LilJa,Hart,Shilen,or Douglas barrel.with a H-S stock.all are priced really good.and keep it in the varment version to control weight,so that it will work in all way's of use.but this is just my opinion.
