Help justify a new gun!

I stumbled up on a custom bench gun today that the shop owner says is "6mm necked down to a 30/.06 case". Is anyone familiar with this configuration or,heavan forbid) is this a recipe for 6BR where I could buy ammo for it? I was knocked out by the workmanship on this gun and would love an excuse to add it to the collection.

Thanks folks

If it's truly a 6mm-06 wildcat that would be quite an overbore round, but excellent for long-range varminting.

You could always set back the barrel and rechamber for something smaller, but you'd lose some barrel length.

I see this gun being way out of its natural range. We are fresh out of prairie dogs in SE Tennessee and my local range is only 100 yds. but it's just such a nice gun. I take it that mistaking it for a 6BR is just not realistic?

The 6mm BR is based on the .308 Win 1.5" case necked down to 6mm and the So that makes it's more than have half of an inch shorter than the 30-06 case. The Norma BR has alonger throat so that you can load the VLD's without moving into the case capacity. So a 6mm Br is going too look like a short stubby cousin of the 6-06 in placed next to each other.

6-06 is a killer on bores... Good for long range work, you can get 105vld or bigger really moving out of the barrel. However, you need the correct twist rate. if this is a bench gun for 100-300yards than I would suspect the twist rate is 1:12-1:14 for shooting 60-87grain bullets. That would also be an effective varmint caliber at well at 600+ Yards.

do you like the gun? If so buy it. What sort of Action is it?

She's built on a Mauser action. Jeweled bolt, really nice wood.
It just doesn't seem to be practical for me though..........unless somebody wants to load for me;)
