Help finding a gunsmith

I live in NW Kansas and gunsmith options nearby are slim and none. Travel with my job puts me into southern Nebraska, all of Iowa, Illinois, and eastern parts of South Sakota frequently. I have a couple of barreling projects I’d like to get someone working on. Suggestions from you all on reputable gunsmiths would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Lee is very good.

you also have Richard Brensing around Dodge City
I had not heard of Richard. When I searched his name on the net, I feel like a complete idiot for not having known of him. And Lee is in the vicinity of Effingham, Il where I frequent regularly. Both are great suggestions. Many thanks!

I hope that you are not wanting a close smith inorder that you can frequent his place and visit with him. My post office ships all over. I pick out the best and send it to them.

I wouldn’t worry so much about how close they are, it’s easy to send them the components and many gunsmiths are more than happy to help round up parts for a build. I would worry most about quality and how you jive with them.

There are several top shelf gunsmiths right here on the forum that will do a great job and take the time to chat with you and get it right.

Zack with ODCR has done a few for me over the last couple of years. The quality is top shelf and you won’t find a nicer guy to work with. He can help with your reamer specs if you don’t know what you want and may already have a reamer for your needs. All of the rifles he’s built for me and a couple he rebarreled and bedded shoot small. He’s a very good option!

Alex Wheeler is also top shelf, I have two rifles he built and completely satisfied with them, they also shoot itty bitty groups, every detail on those rifles was executed to a high standard. He’s good with reamer specs and dies. Solid option!

There are many others too, those are the two I’ve used that frequent the forum. One other builder I like a lot but haven’t used in awhile is Jon Beanland, he builds a mean rifle.…

We’re spoiled with all the choices we have for quality gun builders.

Slim picking in NW Kansas, when I lived out there also. Carlson’s in Atwood used to do some shotgun work if my memory is any good. I had them fit choke tubes for several shotguns.

Main purpose is if I could take advantage of driving to them instead of shipping, I’d like to. Shipping has been unkind to me in the form of broken rifle stocks on more than one occasion, either shipping to or coming from. I felt pretty confident the fine folks on this forum would hook me up with several good choices. And that has sure happened.
