Help choosing a Scope

Rifle: remington model 7
17 fireball
23in barrel
Use:
Coyote hunting day and night with lights
Coon hunting

I'll be using this for both day and night hunting so good light transmission is something i want.
Also when calling coon they come running in close so like a 2.5 or something power on the low end and maybe 15 on the high end?
What's your suggestions?
I don't have any hands on experience with a lot of scopes because my local shops don't carry much beyond a $500 price point and pretty much only vortex.

Regrets... I don’t have any experience shooting in low light conditions to share...

Nor do i.
Nor do i know the ballistic characteristics of a .17.
Aka how far you shoot.
Maybe something 1-8 power.

This may do the trick....at least something to consider.
Awesome glass for midrange stuff or up close.

In my experiance you need something with a thick enough reticle to see at night. I would recommend a SFP scope due to the reticle size. Lit reticles dont work the best with lights, they tend to wash out. Light hunting is also a 2-300 yard game tops at 300 it is darn near impossible to positivly identify something.

On my fireball xp100 I run a 3-15x50 burris XTRII however I would not recommend it for low/no light situations. The reticle is too fine to see especially at low power in those situations.

The Leica ER5 3-15x56 with an A4 reticle is a very solid choice but they are discontinued.

Vortex PSTII 3-15x50 or the original PST 2.5-10x44 would work well the original PSTs have nice meaty 1/4 moa reticles.

Heres another thought. Look at a Sightmark Wraith. Its digital night vision that will work day or night. They work great for Coyotes and Fox, never hunted coon at night but should work well. Scan with the lights then shoot with NV. Or scan with thermal and shoot with NV.

Sawcarvers' advice is spot on. Myself, I limit the range to 150yds (poor eyesight). Also notice that none of his scopes are smaller than a 40mm objective.

The one thing you did not mention is the light source that you will be using; type, power &/or filtered.

This should also figure into the choice of scope.

If I were you I would check around the local gun clubs for like minded hunters. I'm sure someone would assist you with your quest.

I would use the vortex pst 2.5x10-44.
You want a big tube and a big objective. Allows maximum light. Also with small magnification and a big objective helps to find the yotes quicker.
