HELP...Benchrest Shooting Techniques

Hi All....Am having a problem shhoting off a bench..my club has rock solid benchrests...am using protector bunny ear rear bag and an adjustable front rest with another protector bag..to rest the forends...I can hold my rifles rock steady vertically but am having a problem holding horizontally...I can see the crosshairs wobble slightly from right to left and vice versa...also no matter how steady I hold, I lose the crosshairs when the rifles fire....WIN PRE 64 30/06 & Ed Brown Marine Sniper 308 Win....not hard kicking rifles....What am I doing wrong..????

Most of the time, it's the fit of the forearm in the front bag that causes this. How the front rest adjusts the tension on the side of the bag,pivot or slide type adjustment), how thick the front bag is, how hard/soft the bag is, all are parts of the picture.

With a forearm that's rounded on the bottom, it can be a struggle to keep those guns stable horizontally...especially with a trigger over 2 lbs. or so.

When doing load work and testing on my guns with forearms like this, I use a Sinclair 3' adapter that screws to the front stud hole and gives a nice, flat surface like a BR stock.

Another thought: You might want to buy a level that clamps to the scope tube. Once it is levelled properly, line it up same every shot to eliminate the horizontal problem.
