HELP! BAT action problem

I have a BAT machine short action that I shoot on my 6mmBR. Today I was varmint hunting and first shot I could not move the bolt back but about 1/4 of an inch. I packed up and came to the house and removed the barred action from the stock and removed the trigger. Still, the bolt would lift up easily, the firing pin would re-set, but the bolt would stop about where the lugs start to enter the ejection port. I looked through the mounting hole and could see my fired case still in the chamber. I used a cleaning rod to push the case out and the case came out with no effort. I am assuming my extractor broke and part of the extractor is protruding from the bolt blocking rearward movement. I can replace the extractor, if I could get the bolt out. I am waiting on BAT to open for phone calls at 3pm PST, but I thought some of our gunsmiths could give me some pointers on removing the bolt.

You might try a big dose of a solvent like lighter fluid down the barrel with the action closed. If you are having a problem with one of the slide extractors that are machined into the face of one if the lugs, it could just be stuck open. I just finished taking mine apart after having a few stuck cases in my Dasher and I was amazed at the amount of gunk that had worked is way into that thing. I'm still trying to figure out where this gunk is coming from but I am going to make cleaning the extractor a regular part of my cleaning regimen with that bolt. In the past, lighter fluid has loosened it up for a while, but I guess there is no substitute for taking it apart and cleaning vigorously. Meanwhile, you might be able to get yours loosened up enough to get the bolt out if that is the problem. I had no problem pushing the extractor slide out far enough to catch on the bolt race on my action once I cleaned it.

Thanks Tony, I talked with Bruce at BAT and he said some of the earlier SV's had issues like I am having and they fixed the problem on later models. I am sending the barreled action to Bruce, he is going to remove the barrel and fix the action. Super customer service so far.

Glad you were able to get it solved. I ordered an extra extractor kit for my 308 bolt and they needed the serial number of the action to give me the right one; so I guess they must have made some sort of change on the Ms too. The tolerances on my BATS are so tight they really have to be kept clean.
