Hi, a little background .... I'm Pittsburgh Pappy/ Allan, and have circled back to centerfire rifle and pistol shooting. I have been "obsessed" with air rifles for the last 8 years (I see you laughing)
in .177 and .22 calibers. My main discipline is bench rest shooting, and I took this about as far as one can in the airgun world. I had over $4k in my PCP rifle, scope and air tank .... and another $2k easily in incidentals. I sold off my air rifle stuff, and just now started purchasing some "real" stuff. I picked up a Kimber Micro 9 with Crimson Trace laser sites 9mm this week, and my Tikka T3x .223 will be in tomorrow .... however .... I'm out of town for work until Thursday or Friday. I know, you say why .223? I know the really serious BR shooters are using 6mm, but I wanted to get my feet wet with .223 .... less expensive to shoot, but accurate enough to keep my obsession going. I can always move up to 6mm later, and get into reloading if I find that reloading really has a considerable "means to an end". I'm picking up a bunch of different gr match ammo tomorrow so I can find the "magic" factory load, for now. I'll shoot and chrony at 100 yards to begin. Airgunning and centerfire have many similarities, more than you might think, and the transition, shooting skill-wise, should be a somewhat rapid learning curve. Without writing a novel here, I'll finish by saying that the two main differences between these "hobbies" is the cost of the ammo, and the yardage that I can go out and touch some paper with. Also, with an air rifle, I could step outside and shoot out to 100 yards, at my back yard range, in my PJ's ...... so far, in Pittsburgh, PA ..... I have to actually drive to a range 30+ minutes away, or join a club the same distance away. Would love to join a club, but the close ones that go out to at least 100 yards, are full or have lengthy waiting lists. All for now .....
