hello. i'm new here.

i new here and i'm wanting to biuld a 6br on a savage action. i know i can buy one new, but i can buy a used gun from a friend of mine and no paper work. what bolt head will i need and who makes the very best barrels for these rifles? i'll have it in a after market stock as well. any and all help will be great. thank.

Shilen has great barrels for it. Call Accuracy Arms[972-771-8977] for a great price on the barrel. A standard 308 size bolthead will suffice.

what about pac-nor barrels or lilja? i have used a shilen's barrel before and it was a great barrel. i'm going to be shooting this one in a local match against guys who really shoot so i want to put together a really good package. and that tuner in your ad would be sweet. would you install one on a after market barrel? i have a hoehn tuner on my suhl 150 that i use in rimfire matches and know how important they can be.

I can vouch for a Pac-Nor Prefit SuperMatch 3-groove. Mine shoots awesome on a Savage 10FP action. Barrel is 27", about .900" at the muzzle.

I've never had to put a brush in the Pac-Nor in 700 rounds.

any ideals on twist rates? i'd like to shoot a medium wieght bullet. i know i'll have to test the gun to see what it wants to shoot, but ideals from you guys would help out. i was thinking a 1:10 or along that line. what do most guys use in the twist rate. i'm new to this caliber but i'm a fast study. i looked at 30br's and a few ppc's and desided this is the round i am looking for. the pac-nor barrels look promising to me. i'd like to have the barrel threaded for one of the tuners.

1-10" twist is more than you need, but I guess we need to know specifically how light of a bullet you intend to use.

Smooth as a baby's bottom, aren't they?!

i'd like to start out with a 68 grain bullet and go from there. we all know that might not be the bullet that the gun i biuld will shoot best but that would be my starting bullet with varget powder. then just go from there to see what the gun wants. so what twist rate would be in the line up for this bullet wieght? picking the bullet would be impossible as well. it night not like one brand and like another. same with powder and primers. i'm just trying to get the bullets, brass, primers, and dies so when i get everything else i'm ready to go. i found a late 90's early 00's model 10le in .308 i can get for next to nothing so the barrel is the next step.

1-14" twist should be fine with a 68 grain HP bullet. If you think you might want to try somewhat heavier bullets, then 1-12" might be a safer bet. What do you plan to use the gun for?
