Heavy Gun Harmonics

Are there Harmonic issues with Heavy Guns?

Mating a SS barrel to an aluminum barrel block could draw away heat from the barrel.
Does it cause harmonic issues? If so, what do you do?

Thanks!

Terry

I think adding a barrel block to a heavy barrel will stiffen the barrel. I see no bad effects. It also takes the action out of the picture as the action is no longer supporting the barrel. I like glue in blocks verses clamp. Matt

That is something I was wondering about, cause I have one and one in the cal. hung off an action and don't act the same as the loads are different. I as wondering if the block tends to absorb alot harmonics. DG

I don't believe it changes as much by absorption as it does by shortening the barrel and making it stiffer. I never had a problem getting one shooting good. Zfast thinks they are harder to tune. Maybe he will chime in if he sees this thread. Matt

I do not see any issues with them. I have a 8'' block and I can get away with using the same load between my HG and LG as they are both chambered with the same reamer and head spaced the same.

I normally shoot different bullets between them but a good load shoots well in both guns.
