Heavy bullets at shorter ranges

I'm new to 6mmBR and about to order my first rifle chambered in the caliber. I know that the 105/107 grain bullets through a 1:8 twist are preferred for longer ranges, but I was wondering what the accuracy of these rounds are at shorter ranges (100-200yds) compared to the lighter bullets through slower twists? Along the same lines, is a heavy bullet (105/107) through a 1:8 twist more accurate to 200 yards than a lighter bullet through the same 1:8 twist? The reason I ask is I'm trying to decide on a twist rate and I think I'd prefer the versatility of a 1:8, but not necessarily if accuracy out to 200 yards is much better with a lighter bullet/slower twist (I'll probably be shooting 80% of the time at < 250yds).

Thx

The slower twist with lighter bullets will probably provide better accuracy at the ranges you describe. You might consider a 12" as opposed to 14", the choice of most short-range benchresters. That would provide some more versatility.

My 8" twist 6BR 12F shoots 107 Sierras well at short range but really shines past 300 yards. A similar rifle with a 22" long, 14" twist barrel shooting Berger 68s would likely skunk me at 100 or 200 yards.

While working up loads for my new barrel this weekend I tried some left over 108 Bergers at 100. With only adjusting seating depth at the bench it shot consecutive .244 ctc groups. I was stoked. Next is the 80 Bergers and the 95 Bibs.
