Heavy bullets 22-250

I have done some searching on this subject and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My thoughts were to build a 22-250 and shoot 90gr sierras somewhere in the range of 2900-3000 fps. I see some info on twist rates but it's mostly for .223 type stuff. I need some direction before I order a blank. Barrel will be a HV Brux finished around 29-30". Work done by me. Built on a r700.
1.why not much info?
2. What twist?
3. Powder type?

I think most people will be looking for better barrel life so not much info on the 22-250. I tried a 26" 9 twist to shoot 75 amax and it was border line at best. I think a 7 twist would do but that is just a guess. I was getting just under 3300 with my 9 twist and the 75's. Best I ever did with it was 2 back to back one shot kills on groundhogs @ 600 yds.

Go with a 7.7 or 8 twist...the 7 twist actually can blow up bullets at the higher velocity that you will get with the 22-250 case...the 90 grain Bergers work great out of an 8 twist...Bartlein makes a great 7.7 twist barrel...available at Southern Precision Rifles..

I've got a 7tw blank I'm gonna try out in 22-250. I can do all of the chambering/installing my self so I'm not so much worried about torching the barrel. I'm guessing the 80s should run around 3200. Hopefully the bullets hold together. If not, I will chop the barrel down to 22" to slow it down I guess. That or maybe try out the 90s at about 3000fps.

So when sierra recommends a 6.5 twist that is for .223 remington I assume. A reputable shooter around here told me a 9 twist. It kind of threw me off track. I also read about the bullets coming apart at high velocity. I tend to keep velocity and pressure at a tab better than safe. Hoping to preserve my face and barrel life. Starting to rethink the idea. If the higher bc bullets are not an option then the idea will be scrapped. Distance to be shot is 960yds.

for the heavy you need at least an 8 twist or 7 1/2
mine had a 9 twist and shot the 69 grain SMK
excellent..Depends on how far your going to be
shooting..As to what bullet weight your going
to be using..My 9 twist also shot Berger 73 gr
real well..I tried Varget,but went with the H 4831.

i have a 7 twist Mcgowan and it shoots the 90g Bergers really well. I have not tried anything else in it. I had the same problem you had of finding load data for this set up in the 22-250. I cant remember right off hand but i believe i am using RL17. i did not chrony it but as long as it keeps shooting half moa im not too concerned of the speed.

I thought about this but a 6BR does all the 22-250 can do and more. The 6BR will retain more energy downrange.

This past weekend I finished putting together a 220 Swift with a 30 inch McGowen 1 in 7. Just starting the load development but it has went over 3000fps with berger 90 grainers no problems yet. I called Berger before doing the build and talked to them about how fast can I push the 90's and they say they have guys pushing them over 3100fps. I used H4831SC got a couple 1/2 MoA groups but the ES is really high. One was 52fps spread and the other was 109fps. I was using GM215M primers now I'm thinking backing of to CCI BR2.

I just finished a 9 twist in a 28" Hart for my M70 Varminter. Broke it in with 60 grainers at low power, then loaded up some 62 gr M855 bullets with Superformance. I don't understand why that bullet has such a bad rap. Its not a BR bullet, but it will hold half a minute. And trajectory? From 100 to 500 yrds, NO elevation knob input. Start shooting 1" high at 100, and then hold about 2 MOA high at 500 and it rings the gong every time. A little touchy with the wind though. And I ESTIMATE velocity at about 3600 fps with no over pressure signs. (Near max load, plus extra barrel length... Trajectory tables confirm it.)

Sierra told me their 77 grain pill should do fine as well, since it was designed for magazine length loading in an 8 twist AR, and the extra velocity should stabilize it fine. Haven't tried any yet, since I was so happy with the 62's.
