Hearing is bad in right ear. Will game ear work ?

Folks. I am 57 years old. Lots of health issues this last month. Detached retina 3 weeks ago not sure if I will even see in right eye again. Will now in about a 1 month how it heals.
Now I have noticed that I have lost hearing in my right ear. Time for hearing aid. But don't want to spend $4000.00 on hearing aid. Will
One of these game ears work that deer hunters use to hear deer sneak on them ? If so what would be best brand. Willling to spend a few hundred dollars if it will work for me. Your recommendation will be a big help. It is hell to get old at 57. Marty

Find a good Audiologist and have your hearing evaluated. Your hearing, or lack thereof, is nothing to cut corners on. The "game ear" does not provide what a hearing aid does.

Second JRS' reply. I just started using Hearing aids last year after being told in my late teens that I needed them:rolleyes:. Vanity is a bitch....

Best move I have made in years. On the flip side, make sure you use double protection for your remaining hearing....foam in canal (deeply inserted) and muffs over. I used a high end set of protectors/gated amplifiers (DefendEar) and it is not enough for me. I went back to foam/muffs for the range and use the DefendEars in the duck blind.

You ABSOLUTELY must see an Audiologist to find out why you have suddenly lost hearing in just one ear!!!!

And, doubling up on hearing protection is a poor way to waste money. If you insist on using muffs with electronic amplification, you need something like ER-20/ETY-PLUGS under the muffs. The muffs only have at best 26 dB of attenuation and you need nearly 40 for the mastoid bone conduction to be the only path for sound to your inner ear. 26 (muff) plus 20 (ER_20) yields 46Db so the mastoid bone is dominant. And, the ER-20 is a hi-fidelity plug so sounds sound correct and not muffled.

Modern hearing aids amplify only the sounds you can't hear. Aids that are not custom designed for your loss will amplify everything and that is a pain in your..................ear!
See an audiologist!

Are you left handed by chance? My regular Dr. recommended Costco. They did a good job and saved me a ton of money.

whether or not he does not know if he has lost one ear or both,
When a patient presents with sudden loss of hearing in one ear
this is a signal of a potential serious problem.
It can be something totally simple, but one must eliminate that one small chance of a serious problem!

Will I have been steadily loosing my hearing in both ears. Just gotten worse in the last few months. No relation to detached retina or anything else I don't believe. Going to ear dr Tuesday. Marty

Hearing impaired here. I have a constant ringing in my ears and hearing is FUBAR.. been that way since I came home from the land of sun n fun in 1970.. I just live with it.. If I need eyes and ears I bring my grandson along. Kid can spot a flea on rabbits ass at 300 yards..

Buddy at work used costco and was very happy.

Alternatively, Audiologists have a very high markup, like jewelry stores. You can have your PCP order a hearing test, take the test results and buy the same model hearing aid online for about 40% of what the audiologist charges.

They'll need your hearing test results, by frequency band, to program it.

If you aren't in a hurry, put money in your pre-tax health savings account and you can get the cost of a $7000 pair of hearing aids down to about $2k.

Please. Take the advice given by Normatzen, see an audiologist.I have had a lifetime of hearing loss and I can tell you you need to get motivated and see an ent specialist. I tried a game ear for a short. Period of time it will never come close to a device programmed for your specific frequency loss area's. I now have a Baha device that is a type of Choclear implant, and it has improved my hearing 93% in my left ear. I can't emphasize how important it is that you get this cared for. Good luck and I hope you get the he;p you need.

You need to see an ENT. Sudden hearing loss in one ear needs looking into medically, it can be a side effect of something much more serious. Likelihood is low, not trying to scare you, but do the smart thing and get it checked out by a physician.

Full time hearing aid user. Using just one hearing aid is like closing one eye and dealing with depth of view issues. Amplify one ear and then try to figure out where the sound is coming from. Was riding a Horse one day and heard a moose from behind me. Looked behind me and nothing, turned to the front and he was looking right at me. Lucky the horse didn't spook but it knew where the moose and noise was coming from, I could not tell.

What
I have hearing loss from air tools ,race cars and guns . I can't hear birds and Many other sounds. Sams club had some great hearing aids . When hunting I wear them with along with pro ears . The only problem you can hear mosquitoes talking .
I wish I had used hearing protection when I was young . Larry
