Headspacing savage model 12

I find that any attempts I make at deciphering the postings of fguffey are no more productive than attempting to decipher what Lennon and McCartney were attempting to communicate with 'I Am The Walrus'.

 o_O  :p

I consider it 'For entertainment purposes only'.

That's about as close to lmao as I've come in a long while.
So what are you saying Dusty?

Again, my cases do not have headspace. If you were able to measure like only i can youd see how feeler gauges and herters shell holders show me just how good i am. Again i have dies that keep every piece of brass ive put into them since 1967- one of those guns called me one time but i was already on the road again trying to get to the reloaders hall of fame to accept my award but since i was the only one who could fix this i went running after getting a box of tools and my hammer. Its tough being the only one who knows how to form cases from paper clips and juicy fruit wrappers. Again, it feels good to be me you wouldnt know anything about that.

I'd recommend a go gauge plus an action wrench that can lock the barrel in place so it doesn't turn in the receiver threads. Much easier to achieve consistency across multiple rifles or multiple barrel reinstalls.

This just in on the reloader forum:

If the case had head space but it doesn't. And then there is case length, I measure case length from the datum to the case head and from the datum to the end of the case mouth. Other reloaders talk of case stretch in lofty terms because they have no clue.

I'm having trouble with a hernia. Doc told me not to laugh at anything. I gotta get off this page!

there are those that have hernias and those that will. I form my cases then fire them. between me and the other machinists around the country we have thousands of lathes between us but I prefer to measure the headspace (which my cases do not have) with a tool most reloaders only dream about- the yardstick.

I believe a reloader should learn to measure the length of a case from the datum to the case head. I believe a reloader should learn to verify the length of the case from the datum to the case head and the length of the go-gage from the datum to the head of the gage. But I do not believe that is possible, they insist on claiming the case had head space and it is impossible for them to understand Hornady has a comparator, they do not have a gage that can verify. The same with L. Willis' Digital head space gage? Makers of fine measurement equipment identify L. Willis' digital head space gage as a stand of dial indicators, at best if the reloader had a head space gage the digital head space gage is a comparator.

Again; my favorite cases are cases that have been fired in trashy old chambers. I like trashy old cases fired in trashy old chambers because the manufacturer of cases do not sell cases for reloaders that know what they are doing. I form 280 Remington cases for 30/06 chambers that are longer from the datum to the bolt face than go-gage length chambers; I form first and then fire.
