HBN

Where is the best place to get HBN and how would I apply it to my action, bolt and codura sand bags?

Jim

Try giving TAI Lubricants a call (302-326-0200)
or web site http://lubekits.com/

They have HBN available in a spray can. Works great on cordura and leather bags.

To those that may care. I ordered some hbn from lubekits.com. Here is some info I have so far.
They offer three grades for sale.
There recomendations are as follows; Part# AC6111 .5-1 micron for bores $13.95/oz.
Part# HCPL 8-10 microns for bullets $9.95/oz
Part# HCV 7 microns for bags - this is a spray can 100% hbn. $29.95/can
The man I spoke with told me the spray goes on wet and quickly dries to leave a light film.

I'm looking forward to see how this stuff works out. I'm not interested in coating bullets, I think I'll wait for melonite treatment on my barrel.

Now I have to learn the best way to apply the hbn to my parts. I am going to try to get ceramic media and hbn in a container and throw it in my tumbler for a day or two. I think thats how people are coating bullets.

I know this is nothing new, just new to me.
Any input from those more informed would be helpful.

Thanks for the leads, Jim

This question may be a dumb one, but is it possible to coat a sizing die with HBN (or an alternative), so you no longer have to lube the cases?

That would be friggin awesome!

edit... found this - http://sandblastingabrasives.com/hexagonal-boron-nitride-powder-order-page-781%3Aa85c5b602112c4656a74265c8b912711.html

$62.20 shipped to my zip for 1 pound of their "-8" HBN ("-8" = particle size of of 4-7 micron)

any particular reason why you wont just use the hbn spray on your bolt, action and bags?

Not sure that I won't. I bought some of the fine particle and the can to see how it works. I just got a pm for another lead, I might be buying more.
Walt, you interested in splitting some? There was another thread going that a fellow was talking about using it on his dies, said it worked great. He used it on his loading press ram, action and bolt. I bet I can find all kind of places to put this stuff. It's gotta be neater than moly and tungsten disulfide.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to apply it. Does it have to be impact coated on hard surfaces, does it stick to stainless or other metals as well as it does bullets/copper. Will it work on delrin, teflon, or other phenolics?

Walt, I got some more 3/8" manganese plate if you want some. I think it's 56 or 58 to start and work hardens to like 62 rc.
Better let it hang and back it up 100yds for center fire. I'll burn you out what ever you want then we can head down to Cool acres for a match. Good luck at the WO wish I could make it.

If you want the boron to stay on there, you impact plate it via tumbling. The aerosol is probably OK to spray onto something that needs a temporary lubricant.

would you impact-plate a bolt, or spray it for temporary lube (reapply each time after cleaning)?

I would imagine you would not want to plate the bolt face... kind of want that to stay "sticky?"

I came across these if anybody is interested.

Looks like bb's might be the way to go.
