Is there anyway to start coating them without using steel shot in your jars in a vibratory tumbler.Is there anything else to use to impact coat it,like soem other media mixed with the bullets and hbn.

A failure to plan is a plan for failure.
I use the Lyman Moly Coating Kit. I just throw the moly away and use HBN.
The Lyman kit has ceramic media. I do everything else pretty much the same. The huge key is twofold: 1. Get the bullets clean and 2. Get the media and the bullets hot.

No media, vibratory tumbler, 500+ bullets at a time, hBN likes a little heat (heat lamp), use a small amount of alcohol to 'wet', it evaporates pretty rapidly.
No media method works well if you do a lot of bullets per batch, get enough in the bowl so you get that nice toroidal mixing motion dry, throw in the hBN and an ounce or two of alky on preheated bullets. I think with 20 cals 1200+ per bowl.

I am gonna do small amounts at first,what size steel shot would be good? I know about bb's,cant get any around here.I will have to order the shot as I dont have a heat lamp or huge amounts of bullets.
I, too, use the tin plated BB's. I just cleaned the crap out of them. They were UN-belieavably dirty. then, I pre-charged the BB's with about 30 gr of hBN and ran them in the vibrator for 3 hours, my usual time with bullets.
I do not have media in the bowel. I got some 3/4" black foam board and cut two circles to fit in the bowl. One sized to fit in the bottom and hold the bottom of 3 plastic "glasses" with screw lids, and the other fits higher to locate the upper part of the "glass." I locate the three glasses under the three ribs on the lid and screw on the lid to hold everything in place.
I haven't tried heat. I think I will. I have had good luck without it. The bullets come out of the glasses with BB's looking frosted. I separate them using latex gloves and put them into an athletic sock and toss them back and forth to remove the excess hBN. Oh! Ya! I use 30 gr per glass of 50 105gr 6mm bullets. That is just enough to pile on the blade of a medium straight slot screw driver and fill it half way.

Do not use lead shot. A buddy tried it instead of the steel shot I told him to use. I was the idiot until I showed him the e-mail I sent that said to use steel shot.
