The mirror has been flaking off slowly for years, and now it's just about unusable. I assume Hawkeye can repair it? Is this an arm-and-a-leg thing?

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. Even with very careful handling over the 15 years I had owned my Hawkeye, the mirror coating had worn off to the point where my field of view was approx. 1/3 to 1/2 of a new scope(still usable but failing). At that time it was $85 plus shipping to return the 17 inch mirror tube to Gradient to replace the mirror. I opted to buy a replacement mirror tube from Brownells for $120 shipped using one of their promos. Brownells replacement tube was cheaper than buying a new tube from Gradient.
