HAVING A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH TARGET CLARITY

I seem to be having a pproblem with scopes with the ED glass. The target goes blurry on me while the reticle stays sharp. I put a Leupold Comp on the rifle and everything is fine. It is not mirage. If I raise my head and refocus it is fine for a while. Could the ED glass be giving my eyes a problem? This happens with NF and Vortex GE scopes. It is annoying. Any help will be appreciated.

The reticle needs to be in focus at the same range as the target. There are many ways to do this. If your reticle stays in focus even with eye fatigue, then your eyepiece is probably correctly set for your eyes. The next thing is to adjust the parallax adjustment(often referred to as side focus these days) you should be able to adjust the side or objective parralax adjustment until the target is in focus. You can check it by moving your head from side to side. The reticle appears to change position on the target, then the reticle is not focused at the same range as the target. Move your head from side to side as you adjust the knob both directions and you will see the movement get go way, then get worse and go away again as you change which direction you turn the knob. Once you find the perfect setting where your reticle no longer moves on the target as you move your head side to side don’t adjust that adjustment anymore. Now either both the reticle and target will be in focus, or they will both be out of focus. If they are both out of focus, then you will need to adjust your eyepiece...OR your parralax adjust was set up poorly from the factory. I have a Weaver T-36 that would not focus to 1000yds. Inistially I removed the stop screw which allowed me to turn my objective farther. In the long run, I adjusted the lens itself to give me a proper range of adjustment and replaced he set screw.

As advertised, start by adjusting the ocular to obtain sharp focus of the reticle. At the distance you're shooting, adjust the parallax as normal. Now adjust the ocular slightly (5 yo 10 degrees) to make the target more clear, which will then require a slight parallax adjustment. Continue tweaking the ocular and parallax in this manner to fine tune target clarity, and the reticle should remain clear within these minor adjustments. Once optimized I put a wrap of electrical tape around the ocular to assure no unwanted changes. It may be surprising how much a minor ocular adjustment helps clarity.
