The last couple thousand Stainless barrels I chambered, the swarf stuck to the earth magnets in my catch pan like stink on dog poo. Most American made Stainless Steel barrels are 416 or 415 Stainless. I was of the impression all 400 series stainless steels were magnetic.

What does copper do in a magnetic field? Could be a worse effect de-magnetizing metal?

Yes, they are not called "stainless STEEL" for nothing. Steel is this stuff made of (at least) iron and carbon.
