Havalon knives

I’m curious if the havalon 60a blades are scalpel sharp and if they would be worth buying. Any opinions are welcome. Thank you

Yes they are that sharp, been using these knifes for about 6yrs now. Weight almost nothing, but have boned an elk plus couple deer on same blade before

I've been using havalons for a while now. I love them so much I have 2...several different blade styles...I even keep a scalpel handle in my shop where I skin furbearers. They are definitely SHARP. They actually hold their edge pretty well too IMO.

I forget the actual blades they take...but you can get a pretty big variety and fine them cheaper in bulk. Depending what I'm doing, I like a few different blades. 60 is a great general use. 22 is nice for skinning as was said.

I've used one for the last couple of years now. Not going back to anything else. They are extremely sharp and stay sharp. I even quit using a slicer to cut up jerky meat. I can cut cleaner and quicker with the Havelon.

I use them for quartering elk, get your self a good tool incase you need to change the blades. (leatherman, small needle nose) Your fingers will thank you! Super sharp!

I use em all the time. I do a ton of euro mounts every year as well as fur trap. So I do a lot of skinning. They work great. I order the blades in bulk. I think the last bunch I bought was off Amazon. They’re way cheaper that way. The needle nose to change them out is almost a must if you don’t like stitches.

Wow appreciate all the replies! I ordered a couple of their knives and a bunch of blades. My main purpose will be cutting calves which it sounds like they will serve me well and probably use em hunting also.

I had the Gerber version in my pack last fall elk hunting. Did two cow elk with my cold steel Pendleton lite hunter(then remembered I wanted to try the replaceable blade knife). Maybe this fall in Montana I will remember.

Be careful cutting calves one slip and you will need stiches. A local cowboy was using them calf slipped hind leg from rope and resulted in 20 stiches.

After all the positive reviews I bought the Havalon Redi (assisted opening 3”) for daily carry. We’ll see how it holds up over time but so far I like it, very sharp!

Lots of things can go wrong in those deals. Seeing some blunt ended knives now, probably not a bad idea to help not getting jabbed.

I still like to use an old fixed blade my grandad gave me when field dressing a deer for sentimental reasons but if I haven't sharpened it, I always keep a havalon and a pack of blades in my pack just in case. They are as sharp as everyone is telling you they are and it's very convenient to be able to replace the blades quickly.

Well I received my knives and extra blades and I think they will do very well cutting calves. They are damn sharp which is very important and quick change blades will be nice because extra sharp blades are very important for the task at hand since quick, clean, and exact cuts are important. Appreciate all of the replies everyone!

I’ve been using a Havalon Piranta for the past few years hunting elk. Incredibly sharp, easy to clean, and easy to swap blades. Functional for precision work, like separating hide once it’s been opened up. I don’t use it for cutting through hide ever. Only a bigger fixed blade for that.

So far using it as described, I’ve quartered two elk on the same original blade without issue. Midway has them on sale right now with free shipping FYI.
