Has anyone tumbled bullets to get moly off

I ordered some Berger's Monday for this weekend and they sent me moly's by mistake but only charged me for non moly's.

A while back my dealer tried to order me some 88's from Berger and they were out but the guy at Berger said he had them in moly and I could put them in my tumbler and it would come off but I said no I would look for some on the net.

Has anyone done this before? Looking for a quick answer so I can load and be ready in the morning.

Tumble in walnut media, take two asprin, throw away media. Or I'll just trade you some non for moly and that will save both of us some trouble.

Have removed moly from hundreds, several times, by tumbling without media, with just enough regular household ammonia to barely cover bullets. Takes only about 5 minutes. Put a cover, like clear wrap, under top lid to avoid splashing.

Rinse thoroughly to avoid streaking.

Depending on how good the moly coat job you might be able to get the stuff off easy or not. I got some Sierra factory moly off lickety-split with plain tumbling. I had some botched home-moly coated bullets that ended up rather 'lumpy'... ugly as it was, that stuff wasn't coming off without a fight! Someone turned me onto trying a couple cap-fulls of Dillon Rapid Polish tumbling media addititive in there while tumbling. Left it on in the garage overnight... nice-n-bright-n-shiny in the morning.

YMMV,

When I finally decided I'd had enough of moly with my pdog rifles, I had about 1K 6mm 75 grain VMaxes and 600 55 grain .223 VMaxes.

I tossed them in my tumbler with corncob media, and let them run for about 30 minutes. They came out an off-colored gray, but I could not tell any difference in the way they shot as compared to naked bullets. In fact, when the local SW is out of the naked bullets I want, I'll not hesitate to buy the molyed ones, and toss them in the tumbler.

It does, though, trash your media. If you think this is something you'll be doing occasionally, it's not a bad idea to keep the old media on hand for use on these occasions.
