Has anyone tried the new McMillan XIT stock

I picked up a Savage target action and was thinking of the new McMillan XIT for a stock, thoughts?

A good portion of the US FTR team is running them.

I have two... one red-white-blue for my US team gun, and one red-n-black for my Savage team gun.

McMillan lightened up the butt plate hardware a bunch, which helps with weight considerably.

Highly recommended!

do you prefer one type of cheek rest adjustments over the other?

Originally I got the single locking thumb screw / two post version on the red-white-blue stock because that's what Kelly put on the sheet, and I forgot to specify otherwise ;) Turns out it's pretty solid, very simple to use, and slightly lighter than the twin thumb screw / thumbwheel adjustable model. More importantly, it stays put. The twin thumbscrew version, for some reason... the thumbscrews keep coming loose. With the thumbwheel adjustment it not like the cheek piece falls down or anything, so its kind of a moot point, but still...

Something that did surprise me quite a bit... I was all excited to finally have a proper cheekpiece to rest my head on, like when I shot Prone. Turns out... I (and most of the people I know) end up adjusting the cheekpiece down and offsetting it to the right to where my cheek just barely grazes it i.e. no head pressure at all. Several very good shooters I know ended up removing it entirely and shoot just fine with it like that.

That looks almost exactly like a McMillan Prone. What am I missing? Weight?

Weight is part of it... they skeletonized the heck out of the butt plate assembly. Hollow tube for the LOP adjustment, etc. etc. The red-white-blue gun *still* ended up almost too heavy - I went with a Michigan FTR contour (Bartlein #9HV, I think) barrel, and cut it back to 28"... and still had to go to an aluminum scope rail, aluminum trigger guard, lighter bolt handle, etc. etc. Dang thing shoots crazy well, but I think I'll try to stick with Heavy Palma in the future. Someone running a titanium Pierce or aluminum Panda action would have some more wiggle room, for sure.

The other part is they straightened out the toe of the stock - got rid of that off-set 'kick' that the Prone stock has, and then made the angle of the toe just 5° so it tracks back nicely without tossing the muzzle in the air, decreasing the tendency to 'hop' while still allowing a small amount of fine adjustment by sliding the stock fore/aft in the rear bag.

What rail are you fellas using with this stock,I ended up sending my stock to LRI Chad has a pretty nice rail. The only thing is I need to mill a little bit off the slot so my Duplin will slip right in.
