Has anyone ran a 24 inch barreled 6mm Competition Match

I have been thinking of giving this 24 inch barrel 6mm Competition Match thing a try.
Has anyone done it and did it work?

davidd, I don't know of anyone running a 24" tube. My shortest barrel is 27". If nobody post on here with any knowledge of one, give Joe Hendricks a call, or e-mail him.

If you're going to run the recommended H1000 as a powder, a 24" barrel is really too short in the sense that your going to be blowing a huge amount of extra gas and blast out the muzzle that will not be behind the bullet pushing it as it would with a longer barrel. If your going to go with a shorter barrel you will probably want to consider a powder in the H4350 burn rate that will get most of it's work done in 24".

Will it work in a 24" barrel, sure, but it really is not an optimum use of such a cartridge.

Robert is correct.

My 26" SLR shot very well with H1000 and the 105s. I believe my load was 47grs of H1000 and was right at 3000fps and very accurate. I just sent it back to have the barrel set back (Again) So it will be around 24"s when I get it back. It started life as a 26" 6XC and at 1800rds I had it chambered to Roberts 6SLR and put another 1800rds through it and the barrel still looks good other than some throat wear so I will try to get as many accurate rounds as I can out of it.

Its calle a "6 Competion Match" Its a lot like Roberts 6SLR only with a different shoulder angle and a touch more case cap. I believe it also has a shorter neck. Its another varriant that shoots very well and gets good barrel life with the slower burning powders. You can look it up on here a lot of good info on it.

I'd be willing to say that H-4831sc will work just fine in a 24". It's my preferred powder in two of my barrels w/ dtacs and 108's. Start at 42.0gr and work up.
