A good friend of mine has retired from the gun making buisness some years ago. While at his shop the other day, I bought an NOS hart barrel from him. It's marked .2242 9" twist.
It was my goal to chamber for a .223 REM and mate it to a REM 700 action. The bbl was 27" long and a very heavy bbl contour. I wished to have it cut back to 22". We cut the bbl back and cleaned up the muzzle. I went to insert my PT&G range rod, and it would not go. The range rod inserted into the chamber end.
I called Dave Kiff thinking I had an oversize range rod. He gave the specs and my tool matched perfectly. He noted that he has had problems with Hart bbls being undersized in the past.
I tried to insert a 22LR reamer into the bore to check for fit. The reamer would not fit. It measured .216" on the pilot.
Has anyone had this sort of problem with Hart bbls? Any one have an idea about what I should do now??
many thanks,
Brock
