Harrels measure for left handed operation updated…

Updated
It was so easy . A hidden set screw under the mounting clamp and the whole column slid right out . Then flip it and reinstall charging handle with the Allen stop in the bottom position.

Why can’t I figure out how to switch my Harrels measure to left handed operation. I don’t want to damage it and I hate handling my powder pan with my left hand. Any help switching this thing over would be great

Call Harrells for help/instructions.

You may need to send it back.
Youll take the handle off, push the drum out, swap sides and install the handle.
Thank you. That’s about all I could come up with. I’m thinking some gentle pre heat may be in order. Don’t want to get rough on it. If it doesn’t come out easy I’ll just send it in for the work

Hold on! many (well a few) of us had no option but to learn how to use a right handed bolt action , right handed scissors/ can openers etc…. It was totally hard times in the 70’s!

I remember my grandfather saying how he had to pull over another desk at school and in the police dept because everything was R handed. Left hand holsters were special made.
He said in the early 1900's left handed ppl were considered mildly retarded.

Just some stuff i wanted to share !

There are two roll pins in the body of mine that are travel stops for the handle and there is a machined recess on the adjustment side of the body for a split ring brass thrust bearing. Can't simply flip the drum, at least on mine. Just had it apart two nights ago to clean the internals.

Yours not the one with the roller bearing?

Any help on the old style?
Not without some machine work as I see it, pretty much anything can be modified if you want to spend the time and have the knowledge and equipment patience and skill.

Sell the old one and buy the newer roller bearing model which it appears can be converted to left hand operation by flipping the metering drum. The Harrels measures are too nicely constructed to cobble up IMHO.

This is really very simple. To put the handle on the opposite side configure a powder measure stand so that the part that the measure clamps to is on the same side as the clamp. You will have to reach a little farther in from the edge of the bench, but it will work.
