HARRELLS COMPACT PRESS (308) REVIEW

just a quick review of the compact press from Harrells. got it out and operations felt gritty and made gritty noises. took it completely apart, cleaned it thoroughly, re oiled it (yep, with good ol hobo oil:eek:)
reassembled it. all gritty feel and sounds are GONE. super smooth and great feel. no flex when mounted to my bench (with more pressure than I will use resizing). now I can resize at matches, which I couldn't do before. overall, very happy with it and HIGHLY recommend it if you need a portable press. thanks again Harrells. bryant

group Therapy,
Fortunately mine worked perfectly right outta the box. I bought two, two drawer tool boxes for loading at the range. One of them I build some aluminum frame work on it, I can mount my Harrells powder dispenser and compact press on it for sizing and charging and a K&M arbor press for seating, it works great for me. Hope yours works well also. wayne

Bill Slattery,

in your photo the Co-Ax appears to have two cases sitting behind the case in the holder, is that a reflection/camera issue or are you using them as some sort of stops?

I can see that is NOT camera related, you can blow it up and see the case at the rear right is damaged, I'll follow this to see why he had them there or if in my case forgetfulness LOL

I think you are correct. With the expander mandrel die adjusted as high as the threads allow, they must be throwaways being used as stops.

How does the press work for seating bullets? Is there a finite hard stop to the ram up-stroke? Will the .308 size press work for seating Benchrest size cases?

Probably not very well, there isn’t a lot of height to the opening

Yes I was using them as a stop. Was thinking on drilling and taping some holes into the back so a screw could be used instead. Hate to alter an old piece of art though.

I cut away a lot of the threads on the old Sinclair expander mandrel holder. That way I can get at the mandrel with Imperial for necking up and turning.

Instead of being "very happy", get one of Henry's turret presses with the 4 position turret, and be very happy happy happy happy. ;)

Headed to the range with my Harrells press and powder measure ,.... love mine hope yours is getting used and liked as well.
