Harrel vs Sinclair reloading press

I have been reading the article about the new Sinclair reloading press with much interest for I am thinking about a new press myself. Now I have also been looking at the Harrel press which sells for nearly have the price the Sinclair does, what I would like to know is how well both perform on concentricity and bullet runout and do you think the Sinclair is worth the extra money.

If you plan on hauling them to the range they do take up less space, weigh less, and are easier to set up. But then again a top benchrest shooter that we all know just uses the little RCBS Partner presses at the range.

If your primarily going to load at home, a brand new Rock Chucker Supreme will only cost you a hundred bucks.

Are the Harrells and Sinclair presses nice? You bet they are. You just have to decide if it's worth it to you to pony up the bucks.

The newest Harrel is a cheaper copy of the Hood Press. The hood press is an outstanding design in that it has the ability to load with 7/8 -14 unc sizing dies,whatever you like) shoulder set back or neck size or both at once, and it allows you to keep a wilson type seating die handy and use the same press for both. We have three of the Charlie Hood presses, and they are works of art. I have not handled a Harrell press since they came out, I only used the Prototype, it was sloppy. Maybe the real thing is not. I had heard the Hoods were no longer making their press, might be rumor. The Sinclair press is nice, very nice. But it can only do the 7/8 - 14 dies. This will mean you have to bring an Arbor press to the range for bullet seating, with the Hood you don't need to do that.

By the way, Charlie and Charlene Hood, Wilbur and Walter Harrell, and The guys at Sinclair are all nice guys. so it doesn't come down to that either.

Thank you for your comment. I have a RC Supreme that is one year old and do all of my reloading at home and when I check for concentricity and run out I get to see some variation, some are <0.001 and most are 0.002 but there are always a few that will give me as much as 0.004 on run out so I was just wondering if a Harrel or Sinclair would improve on this and if they will give me a more consistent reading. I know many shooters are using the Wilson dies and press but I have heard some of the same stories about there performance on run out. I am using a Redding fl bushing sizer and a Redding comp seater and I do like working with these kind of dies but I would also like to improve on the run out but I can't figure out what would be the best deal.

My opinion, concentricity/runout is much more a function of the dies you use than the press you use.

Redding dies are good, but simply cannot do what custom dies will...

This might be a good idea to try first, my chamber is cut for Lapua brass and the Redding die is for 6BR Remington now I don't know if this makes a big difference but this way I can order the die that is right for my chamber and this might improve concentricity as well. I have been looking at the Harrels fl die and I understand that they are highly recommended so I think I will give them a try to see how this works out.
