Hi guys and Happy New Year.
I am trying to gain some knowledge on the ill affects from cock on close on a Rem 700. I have a good friend with a Rem 700 that he has done some mods to to make it lighter, better handling, etc. It's a stainless 30-06 that he uses for deer hunting.... not a bench gun. He had the bolt handle skeletonised, shroud fluted, changed the stock to an HS Precision and swapped the trigger for a TT Primary. While looking at it a couple days ago I noticed that it had a lot of cock on close and you could feel a "bump or hesitation" while disengaging the safety. With my limited knowledge, I couldn't explain how or if that affects accuracy etc. Is it something that just isn't correct but will be ok in a hunting rifle? I know that guys claim that bolt timing and pin fall affect accuracy, but if so, will it turn a .75 moa hunting rifle into a .5 moa hunting rifle?
Please explain and educate me.
Thanks
Bob
