Hard Case for a Cowan Rest

What hard-side case do you use for your Cowan front rest? Pictures showing how you fit everything in would be appreciated. I found a Pelican V600 which is big enough but also pricey. Something smaller can work with the F class rest removed.

Get an action packer. You dont need a fitted $300 case for a rest. With an action packer you can put a lot of stuff in there like your rear bag, superfeet, cleaning supplies, towel for bench, ammo, etc. you can put it in a beach cart and haul everything at once for like $25

Thanks Dusty. I didn’t think of that because it’s usually about 10 ft from my vehicle to the bench.

Okay, @Dusty Stevens, thanks for the suggestion. Here is my action packer for my Cowan rest. I got the 35 gal one to hold most of my gear. I bought a 3/4” x 2’ x 2’ piece of plywood and cut it down to fit tightly. Then I countersunk holes for the F-feet, drilled a 5/16” hole for the speed screw, and added a couple of eye hooks for twist ties to keep the rest from moving around. I left a 3/8” 16 tpi bolt sticking up to hold the extra foot in place, and I left a smaller bolt sticking up to hold my rubber-coated washer stacks. I think all the other gear I need for most range trips except the long guns, target frame, and my chrony will fit in the box. Thanks again to Dusty for the suggestion.

Man thats awesome!! I know you just bought it but one more suggestion from ole dusty- get a smaller one. That one is going to get too heavy too quick. Lay your rest on your folded up bench towel, put your accessories in a box of some type and put your sandbags in there. Thatll make it heavy enough you wont like to carry it much.

Disregard my skinny feet

You’re right about not wanting to carry it much but I only have to move it about 10 feet from my vehicle on each end of the trip, so I’ll probably try it out and see how it works for me. Thanks again.

Well the 35 gallon Action Packer is not manageable for one person due to the slick handles and it’s too long to get a good grip on it. I took it back and got a 24 gallon one like Dusty suggested. Dusty knows.

Ha ha, that’s funny. I want the radio control version that can haul your target stand down range, post a target, and go get it for you. You could send it down while the range is hot. None of my friends would accidentally shoot it on purpose.

Here are a couple of pictures of the tote I modified for my Farley. The center hole has a threaded insert (T-nut) so that a the rest can be secured with a hand tightened bolt, also at each place for the rest feet, they are drilled so you do not have to back-out the rest feet and I added a stick-on felt pad (like for a chair leg) for the rest to set on. Added clips to the end to hold the handle and will velcro the small parts (allen wrenches and misc items) box to the bottom so it doesn't slide around but can take it out easily.

Tim

Edit: The box lid is a two piece that hinges on the long edge on each side.

6ShotsOr5?,
I used a fired 9mm case to cut the hole in the center of the felt pad. Used my neck chamfered to put a sharp bevel on it and them and used my vise to compress them together to punch the hole between piece of heavy compressed paper (on the felt side (a hammer would also work). I also used a plastic washer under the center bolt that locks the rest in. At the time my hardware store was out of the little plastic caps that would fir the bolt, so I used 2 pieces of thick leather and glued them to it It serves to remove the metal to metal contact during storage and travel.
