Hammond's Rifles 257 Ackley Improved questions

So I purchased this rifle on impulse on an online gun auction site. No experience with reloading for AI, but since the purchase included die set, fire formed brass, and a reloading data, I went for it.

Anyone heard of Hammond's Rifles? I searched and found a shop, but it seems to be out of business. The rifle is a Ruger M77 (tang safety) bedded in fiberglass stock, smooth action, stainless barrel, and light trigger.

Any information on how to get in touch with Hammond's Rifles.

CLARENCE HAMMONDS RED LION PA. IS ONE OF THE BEST NOT SURE IF HE'S RETIRED OR NOT.CALL HIM 717 244-7879

He is still in business and I won't have anyone else touch my rigs. I called him the other day and haven't heard back from him, so I assume he's out of town. He does travel more than he used to, but he'll always return your call when he gets back. Really good guy, good shooter, and a great reputation as a gunsmith. Phone number and address above are correct.

Yeah, just call the ph #'s listed above. Do NOT send him email. The price list and email address on his website are wrong, but he's never responded to my emails, even when I used the correct address. I agree that he must be out of town. I called twice last Fri, 4/24 and he's not called me back yet; he normally returns calls quickly.

I can say without a doubt that Mr. Hammonds has not retired. In the last 20 years he's built me 2 XP-100 handguns, a 22 BR and 6 BR. I'm not a competitive shooter, using both guns for prairie dog hunts, but they have been extremely accurate. A few wks ago I sent him a 3rd XP handgun. This one had a factory 7 BR barrel that I wanted rebarrelled to a 25 BR barrel I included. I shipped the gun on a Friday. He received it Wed PM. Thurs PM he called. I figured he had a question about the project, but instead he wanted to tell me the project was done and what the final cost was! :o My phone calls to him are always enjoyable, entertaining and informative. He's polite, but he'll also flatly tell what he thinks.

I bet you'll be very pleased w/ his work. :)

I believe he held several benchrest records in his time . I was there once and he showed me a target where the the group was about .175 No big deal I thought untill he told me it was at 300 yrd. He also showed me a fly, or fly guts that he shot at 100. Good guy.
