Hammer bullet help please

I loaded 70g hammer hunters in a 22” factory savage 243. Everyone talks about how accurate and easy to tune these bullets are but I can’t get these to shoot for anything awesome velocity but barely moa groups any help or suggestions

What does this rifle do with factory ammo? Should be easy to get half the group size with hammers.

Load a pressure test ladder. When you get ejector mark back off 0.5 grain and see how they shoot

If they don't shoot any better then call hammer and request to exchange them.... also ask what they think would work.

I prefer to have at least half an inch tighter twist than they call for. ( call for 10 twist, i prefer 9.5)

I have a friend with a Hart barreled 243AI and he is having some issues as well. One of his issues is he insists on using one powder only and I don't think his rifle cares for it. Have you tried different powders?
That can certainly be a problem. I went through 8 different powders in my AR 308 before I found one that would really perform. I was just about to try a different barrel. It went from 1.5" to 3/8" with AR Comp and 165-168 class bullets. Nothing else came close. However, I know zero about Hammer Bullets. I'm not a mono guy.

My 6.5x55 was finicky until I found the right powder/bullet load. Then it turned into a decent shooting rifle. I don't know anymore than what I have read about the Hammer bullets but what I read says they are easy to load for. I'm never that lucky to get something "easy". Other than a little pricey they sound like a good bullet. I'd like to give them a try one of these days.

Smart AXX advice: Take a hammer, hit your thumb with it. Then throw both hammers in the trash. Get some sierra 85 gamekings and be done with it.

Where??? Been a LONG time since I have seen these in stock anywhere.

RL-16 go up to 46 gr depending what brass you're using and the COAL. Start at 44.5 or 45 gr
VV-N-550 would also work great with this bullet and probably max out around 46.5 gr.
Both those powders at near max / max charge weight can get the 70 Hammer hunter over 3,400 fps in the 22" barrel.

Savage's in 243win don't care for H-4350 unless you throttle them down.
Savage factory 243win barrel is 9.25" twist. I still use one for hunting with Sierra 85 gr BTHP Gameking #1530 or 100 gr old school Sierra SemiSpitzer # 1550 for deep wood brush work. And the 9.25" twist will shoots 105 A-max and BTHP very well with 43 gr H-4831sc, 2.800" coal, Win brass and whatever primer.
