Hagar loads

Best can vary a bit depending on your rifle & components.

My spacegun upper's from John Holliger late in 2007, Kreiger 26" 1:7.5 barrel.

I've been using 30.5 grains N140 with Berger's 90BT in R/P brass, KVB-7 Wolf primers (or BR-2's) for years for 200 & 300 yards. Jamison-sourced brass for 600, still Wolf primers & 30.3 grains RL15 behind either Berger's 105VLD or newer 105 Hybrid seated 0.020" off the lands.

Case stretch reduces Jamison case life about 12mm up from the extractor groove no matter how careful I am when resizing.

The new Hornady brass is wonderful stuff! Their thicker walls do reduce case volume. 1/2 grain less propellant for both keeps performance the same at all yard lines: 30.0 grains N140 or 29.8 grains RL15. I use KVB-223REM primers with the Hornady brass.

Tried IMR 8208XBR too with both 105's but don't recall charge weight. Good stuff, needs less than the other two & burns cleaner. No loss in accuracy.

I also home-apply hBN powder to the Berger bullets I shoot.

I'm in total agreement with spclark when it comes to the Hornady brass - Lord, wish we'd have had this stuff five years ago! I formed & trimmed 1200pcs of HAGAR from R-P 30 Rem & Jamison 25 Rem - after all that work, having a few cases develop loose primer pockets after two firings discouraged me to the point of selling my new spare HAGAR upper, Redding die set, and the majority of the brass I'd formed.

Don't recall whether I'd ever tried 8208 in the old brass - will have to check my notes & data. I know it meters smoothly & consistently enough to make it attractive.

Thanks for the info: SP, JS (heard good things bout your smithin up in the northeast), and Flatlander.

Hats off to you guys !

Hollinger built mine so take it for what its worth...

29.7 RL15, Rem7.5, 107 SMK .020 off the lands, in Hornady brass for my long load. It hammers if I can hold it.
