H4895

If it is one of the Hodgdon Extreme powders that has been treated, then it is, but if it is anything else such as mil. surp. then it is not.

I suspect Blair typed that response before his coffee this morning. The Hodgdon Extreme powders are less heat sensitive than others such as surplus or IMR powders. However, the key word is 'less'. No powder is completely insensitive to changes in ambient temperature or to being left in a hot chamber for a long time, some are just a little less affected.

Got me on that one! :) The extreme powders are less sensitive to heat than the mil. surp. 4895 or IMR 4895. I type this as I'm having my morning coffee and rereading my first post!

I'm having mine too. It's a miracle I can even see the keyboard before two or three cups!

Hope you can make it out for the Palma matches here sometime. www.desertsharpshooters.com for programs. :comp:

Shucks,Clowdis!

I'd sorta be happy if I posted something and got it corrected by German Salazar!Take it as a compliment, even.I've tried to read everything he's written or commented on.

My Ideal Scenario?

Shooting a gun borrowed from Tom Sarver, being coached by Walt Berger & German Salazar!

Yep,

I am working with German now and I take corrections well but sometimes I have a hard time executing them. I will keep trying until I get it!

It is great being a new shooter and having German take his time to coach, set up and help you any time with any problem. We shot a 500 yard match this morning and then German drove across town to shoot one last string at 600. Just a little crazy.

There's no way I can drive past the Ben Avery range, know there's a match that I can still shoot in and keep driving!

Seriously, as much fun as shooting is, it's even more fun to help someone make progress and you're a lot more receptive to "strong suggestions" than some others. ;D

You guys know anyone around St. Louis area that does coaching or mentoring? I live in Quincy, IL and there is hardly anyone that shoots bench or F-class. Its hard to teach myself. But people on here help a ton!

German coaching and just all around helpfulness would cost you big.

He would first disinfect your rifle for all forms of a scope infection. Toss the bi-pod and find a sling for you in the back of his truck. Help you get a jacket ordered. Find a jacket to borrow until yours arrives and teach you to enjoy the taste of dirt.

Next a Warner and a Riles. It may be worth moving to Phoenix it is a lot like a cross between boarding school and boy scouts but what fun. I have a 12 X42 Nightforce that is in the box screaming to get out.
Irons are just to much fun.

As well as you see to shoot irons, does that mean you have a few cups of coffee before you shoot?

I have yet to find an ambient temperature sensitive powder between 45 and 90 degrees! Ain't no such thing, in my opinion. Fifty feet per second higher velocity per 5 degree Fahernheit increase in temperature is the best powder I can find. Can't fool a Chronograph, so why try? We aren't dealing with 10-year-old kids here. Anyone without a suitable chronograph can be fooled. Powder sensitivity being what it is creates DEVIATION . . . , often extreme. cliffy

Yes - I do! Coffee is the miracle elixir. :D

I remember Mid telling me one time that if you normally have two cups of coffee in the morning then you should have two cups on the morning of a match also, so I do. Really can't tell the difference in scores.

My chronograph rarely lies: No powder seems ambient temperature uneffected, twixt 45 and 90 degrees deviations are extremes. But powder companies seem most expertimental regarding same. Hodgdon appears among the best, regarding this PROBLEM. Perfection is yet to be attained. Cliffy
