H4895 for Palma

Topic title says it all. Got Berger 155 Hybrids, 155.5 Fullbore, 185 LRBT "Juggernauts" on the shelf. New 29" Bartlein 5R 1:12 for this year.

Load suggestions welcome. Will reduce @ start though this barrel / chamber seems slower than w/8208XBR used last year w/2156 in 1:11 30" Broughton w/ decent results.

Not sure this stuff's best for heavies, sold all my Varget last year.

I never found anything to beat 8208 XBR with FULLBORE bullets. The one series with H4895 and 185 BTLR from a 30" Savage was inconclusive. It topped out at 2810 in a Shilen 10" twist and .030" jump. it may be a little too fast for that bullet weight although the case fill was 95-98%. Varget does seem like a better bet but my results were not great with it. It's a shame because I have a lot of both H4895 and Varget.

If you want to run the 185s you may want to go back and get more Varget. I'm shooting a 30" 1:10 Krieger in my F-TR gun. Using WW brass I got fantastic (like .25MOA at 200 yds) accuracy with ~44gn of Varget.

If you shot it at long range, what kind of elevation did it hold? Did you chronograph the load? I would really like to use the ~15 lbs. of Varget I have.

Steve (Clark) I use H4895 with 155, 175 and 185 in the .308 - best choice in my opinion. I don't like to give specific loads because I use moly and Winchester brass (unlike many shooters) and my chambers have a slightly longer than normal throat. However, a little bit of work and you'll find great loads that don't require powder compression and will win matches.

My MV with the 185s at 44.1gn is 2715FPS, my vertical is inside of the 10-ring at 1000, I almost never lose points up or down.

I have a 175 SMK over 44.2 Varget load that gives me 2755.

I shoot the 175s in practice and for club matches because they only cost 60% of what the Bergers cost.

Using Varget and 175SMKs doing a 15 round practice string a couple of weeks ago from 600 and shot what would have been a 146 6x, all 4 lost points were right or left. (miss the lift, didn't believe it, dialed it, didn't dial the letoff = 9-9-X-9) There are a lot of championship level guys using Varget for 308s in F-TR.

I use Sierra 155s and H4895 exclusively. I have had great results using VV N140 in my AR and decided to try it for the 308W. It was a short experiment and I'm back to using H4895. I'm not a great shot but have scored a couple of 200/200s strings in F-Class: the powder is very consistent.

I was wondering because I didn't think anyone had shot clean in a registered match. The best I ever shot in F-T/R was a 150-10X at 900 in the 2010 AZ State Palma Championship. Of course, I blew it at 1000.
