H4350 to RL17

After several months wait, I have at last got hold of some RL17 - can anyone help out with a comparison load...

Currently, I am using 38g of H4350 on 105g tips,3020 fps) in my 5x47 Lapua - what would be a comparative load in RL17

Would that be a 6x47?

I load for a 6mmx22-250AI, using 39 gr H-4350 behind 107gr bullets. I tried the same weight charge of Re-17 and saw no pressure signs, and possibly slightly better accuracy.
If I were you, I would start about a grain below my 4350 load, and slowly work up.

I'm using 39 grains of RL-17 in my 6 X 47 Lap and its working really well.

25AI260 - H322 or Norma 202 are better choices for 75 grain in 6BR. My loading with RL17 has been with Sierra 107s and the burning rate seems nearly perfect as a max load is 100% loading density. If the powder was slower or the bullet lighter, I could not fit enough in the case.

In 6XC I find I can use .5 - .75 grain more RL17 than H4350 for the same bullets (S107 or DTAC 115, both hBN-coated) in two of my rifles.

RL17 tends to be a bit "peakier" or more sensitive to high ambient temps though so as you near the max. safe charge weights for your needs, keep an eye on the thermometer when you shoot.

As suggested in an earlier post, to be on the safe side start maybe a grain off your safe H4350 loads then work up.

In a 6x47 and 6.5x47 I found them to max out at a similar load, but the same load of R17 has gained me 75-120fps more speed...

Hodgdon H4350 is quite consistant at any given consistant ambient temperature. It's a go-to-powder when consistancy of accuracy is desired regarding most applications of 6mm accuracy. Bullet construction of destruction is a totally separate issue . . . Cliffy
