h4350 in 22-250 using 55 grain nosler ballistic tips

Thats a fairly slow burning powder and its probably too slow for that weight bullet. Its unlikely thayt you can "stuff" enough H4350 into a case to be useful. Many other powders will probably give better results. The classic being H380
Now the stage is set for someone to declare that 4350 is the best and only.

Nosler with the 4350 powders lists only IMR4350, NOT H4350 for use with 55-grain .224 bullets in the 22-250.

Hodgdon lists H4350, but it turns out slower velocities (3,490 at max load) than other choices. Some of the top powders for velocity that I have used with success according to them are: H414/W760 (along with AA2700, H414 and W760 are all the same powder) at 3,582, H380 at 3,713 fps and CFE223 at 3,855 fps. ALL ARE MAXIMUM LOADS!

Other powders appropriate to the 22-250 and 55-grain bullets are listed by Hodgdon are shown on their free online reloading page at https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

For years I shot the 22 250 and had a good rifle, a Rem 700 Varmint with the factory aluminum bedded block stock. The rifle shot good (in the 1/2 moa range give or take) with IMR 4064 and Varget and 50 Nosler BT's. This rifle had a 14" twist so the 50's shot a little better than the 55's.

I ran into a fellow varmint hunter one afternoon who was shooting long range off a table with a custom 22 250, 14" twist using 50 Nosler BT's. He seem like a very knowledgeable shooter and reloader. When I asked about the load he was shooting he told me he was using IMR 4350. I was quite skeptical until I saw him nail a few ground hogs at about 500 yards.

Later I thought about it and still was skeptical but I had some IMR 4350 so I decided to try just five rounds with 50 Nosler BT's. I did notice that the Nosler Manual had load data for the 22 250 using this powder and the 50 and 55 grain bullets so I felt better about trying it. I was shocked by the results - I shot a sub 1/4 group, almost one hole. I figure this was just blind luck so I tried two more 5 shots groups later. The results were the same - it was the tightest combo I ever tried in the 22 250.

The down side was that I was only getting about 3,500 f/s which kind of defeats the purpose of the 22 250 as a long range high velocity varminter. But never the less this combo was extremely accurate in my rifle.

I've been runnin' IMR4350 in my 22-250 for about 35 years. Nosler 55 gr BT,, CCI 250 magnum primer and 38.0 gr IMR4350. 3,275 fps in a 24" Ruger M77V.

Same load in son's Rem VLS, 26" barrel is 3,540 fps. Both about 3/8" 5 shot groups @ 100 yds.

Not a hot rod, but bullet placement is everything.
