Since I decided that my 300WM was going to be my primary go-to over1,000 yard rifle (over my 338 Lap.. the 50BMG being porohibited a lot of places too) I have been scratting around looking for suitable powder(s). An interesting exercise in the current environment. I have good quantities of 7828SSC and Magpro. But.. I think the 7828SSC a bit fast for the heavier 210-220 bullets I want to use. I've never been able top get good ES with Magpro which I think will show up adversely at a mile. I have N570, LRT and RE33 for the 338 but I think they're a bit slow for 300WM. I did pick up 2lbs of N170 last week and was back at my local supplier today picking up the 2lbs of N565 they had. (2lb is my absolute minimum purchase for a new powder allowing for load development and at least a few rounds... !00 rounds a pound at 70+ grains per doesn't go very far).
I was at the register with my V565 when I spotted the pictured 8lb tub of H1000 on a back table. Nothing ventured, nothing gained so I asked: "I assume that's for an order, or is it for sale?" Well, it was for sale. I quickly gave up the N565 and made off with it a little shy of $350 bucks later. With the addition of the 1lb of H1000 I have already, that gives me lots of room and powders for ELR development.
I have advised several times to get out and do the work, you will turn things up. I go out of my way to visit my vendor twice a week and so far, eventually, it works out. They had lots of powder varieties today, some not cheap, e.g., I paid $50/lb for 3x 1lb tubs of Ramshot Big Game last week, but it's there. Primers not so much...... The search continues.
8lbs of SW Precision and 8lbs of H1000 in the same week? The result of hard work. I'll take it.
