Hey guys,
I have been trying to work up a load for my 6*284 1:8 Krieger I couldn't get it to shoot the 115s so I tried 105 bergers, 107 Sierras, they shot better but I couldn't consistently do any better than about 1.25" @ 300 yards. I was using RL-22, Retumbo, Ramshot,4350, and 4831 with about the same results with all that I tried. Today I decided to go another route before I got the chop saw out ::) I grabbed some 105 Lapuas and some H-1000, I couldn't find any data for it but decided on 50 grains, it yielded 3067fps with single digit ES and SD and under a inch 3 shot group @ 300 yds the velocity wasn't where I wanted it so I bumped it up and ended @ 52.0 grains with the Lapua jammed .0105, three shot group measured 7/8" round #s and 3195 fps with ES of 1.69 and SD of 1.00 :o so I followed up with my last shot of the day (started snowing and blowing) five shots loaded the same as the last one fps avg. 3197, ES 4.98 SD 2.64
I was getting around 3300 fps out of the RL-22 but the groups and stats weren't as good as the H-1000. I am hoping tomorrow to get her to shoot under .750 @ 300 as this is my 1000yd rig. Have any of you guys competed with H-1000 successfully? and do you think I am just wasting this big 6 with less than 3200 fps? I am not showing any pressure signs with 52.0 grains and I went to 53 but didn't gain much so I think I am @ my peak load where I am @. Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

If this helps I have a 6-284, 26"bbl, 1:10 twist shooting 95gr SMKs with H1000. 54.5 gr shot well at 3175fps which I thought was slow for a 6-284. Had some issues with bbl and chamber so haven't shot it for awhile. You could probably start at 50gr on the safe side and work up. I went up to 58gr and got 3375 with no problems, but it didn't shoot well at that velocity with any powder I tried. Good luck.

Wayne, if your rifle likes the 52.0 of H1000 with Lapua 105's, I would stick with it. Some of these bullets you mentioned using like that certain speed node to be effective at 600 yards and over. Sure you aren't taking full advantage of the case, but look at it this way- You are still winning the drag race out to 1000 yards and your barrel life at least should be a tad better using 52 grains over say 54.

My 6AI shooting 105 Lapuas is right at 3175-3190 FPS with 48 grains of 4831SC and is very mild. (28.5 barrel) I could probably go up a full 2 grains, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thanks fella's, I think Lynn is right on the accuracy nodes, I was having good success with 52.0 of H-1000 and 105 Lapuas, then the lb. of powder I was using ran out so I bought three more lbs. My son and I wanted to finish up at 600 then move to 1000 yds my 600 yd groups were terrible, it was sprinkling a little rain and heavy overcast so my chrono wasn't working, bull headed as I am I trudged on bullet after bullet after bullet with terrible results ??? ??? The next day when my brain started working I went back down to the range and found the new lots of powder to yield 3300 fps with 52.0 grains I had to drop it down to 50.3 grains to achieve 3197 fps. I will give it another try, and I am sure the outcome will be different, thanks again.
