Hal, I will need a good smith, but then again who needs a bad one, to barrel a Remington Action for me. I have not received the action yet from the smith turing it. SO I maybe in Montana by then. I don't like shipping rifles so Speedy is out. But If I do get it in time I may run it over to him. I will like to know my options.

Competition 'smith or just a good general one? And just in general where are you going to be? Eastern Montana by itself is bigger than a lot of states.

My place is just South of Forsyth. I would prefer a Competition one. But anyone that does top quality work would be a good start. Otherwise I will drive to Alex Wheelers shop in Western Mt.

The name I've got for you is Keith Anderson in Miles City. He's usually swamped. If you're in a hurry he probably won't take it. He's not Mr. Wheeler, but he does a good job.

There are several gunsmiths around, depending on the type of work you need done.
Point blank, long range benchrest, steel shooting , hunting rifle. I'm not sure what the wait time is.

If you get a chance, check out the Quigley shoot on Father day at Forsyth;
It's a 2 day shoot using Sharps type rifles at longer ranges. People come from all over come to shoot.

^^^^^ This. Have had work done by Joel. First class. Dickinson is 60 miles east of Mt line on Interstate 94. Or Alex Wheeler in Dillon. Have had work done by him too. First class also. Those two I have experience with(may be others but no exp with). Joel is 701-483-6503. Alex is 406-596-0892.

I am retired. I bought 200 acres there. The 1026 fire burned 30 acres of it recently. I just came back from fencing 30 acres of it so I have a place for my horses. I will be moving in April.
