Gunsmith job needed

Since Dave Kiff doesn't plan on doing any Howa 1500 bolts anytime soon(unfortunately :'() , I'm trying to find someone that will. I would like it to be a one piece bolt body with spiral fluting with the bolt body made to my spcifications are far as diameter goes. Does anyone know who can do this?

Id bet nobody wants the liability and it would be a one off job. Are you stuck on a howa enough to buy a $2000 bolt?
Would a one piece bolt run up into $2000? I was looking at spending more like $500.

What exactly is your goal here?
Howa 1500's already have a one piece bolt body and handle. And quite well engineered and made.

A new bolt for a custom action runs about $500-$600. What would be the difference except what you are talking about doing is a one off that would take several times as long to make because of being a one off? The time to do a one piece is also way more than a two piece and requires a lot more material, most of which winds up in metal chips. A two piece with the handle properly tig welded and timed would be considerably less, but still quite expensive to make, while being just as good, for all practical purposes. Case in point...most all actions, custom and factory, use a two piece bolt without issue.

As has been asked already, what are you looking to gain by making a bolt? If tighter fit in the raceway is the goal, there are very effective and much less expensive ways to go about it.--Mike Ezell

Better fit to the raceway is the main point but also a smaller firing pin diameter and hole.

I've not bushed the fp hole on a Howa, so can't speak directly to that but I suspect it wouldn't be difficult to do. That said, bushing the bolt body where the front and rear receiver bridges are when the bolt is closed will allow it to be as tight as you want it to be...and a fairly easy job to boot.

Chappy...contact Greg Tannel at Gre-Tan Rifles and see what he can do for you...if he will do the work it will be "top shelf"
