Gunsmith for savage advice

I have a savage LRPV chambered in a 6 BR and I'm wanting to chamber a 300 win mag on this action so I'm looking for some advice on who I can get to do the work and provide me with a new bolt as well. Only two folks I'm aware of is SSS and Kevin Rayhill, I've sent SSS an email on price quote but haven't spoken to Kevin yet. So I still looking for more options.

Thanks in advance.

Any good gunsmith can do that for you. Call PT&G and order your bolt from them and then find a gunsmith to chamber your barrel.

Does your action have the red blade. If it does it will be the large shank. Most mag I fell are best to be on put the large shank actions.
Bostrom Gunsmithing does mine. His number is 941-724-1299 Larry

Larry Racine has been the Savage man for me the last 30 years.....

James,
Stay clear of SSS . You can order barrel and bolt head from Northland shooter supply.

Don't go to SSS, They owe me money from Aug. 2013, for goods that I have not received, I'm lucky its only 75.00. A really good example of a really bad ran business. No e-mail answered, and there answering machine doesn't accept messages. SERIOUSLY.
I would suggest the guys at Benchmark Barrels

Thanks for the replies, I'll stay away from SSS per advice here. I've found a barrel now it's off to PTG forms complete bolt assembly.

James:
First, The model 12 LRPV is a magazine fed short action.. The 300 Win Mag is a long action cartridge. There are magazines made to handle .204 Ruger through 338 Federal. I don't know it they make a magazine that would work with a 300 WSAUM.

As mentioned..the 300 Win will be too long in your 6BR action....consider the 300 WSM if you are wanting a 308 caliber
With a few simple tools you could change out the barrel yourself..along with changing the boltface...Sinclair or Midway sells a barrel nut wrench..action wrench & barrel vise...plenty of aftermarket Savage barrels out there too......I do believe your action is a large shank..so you will need to look for that size...1.118" opposed to small shank 1.060"....yes I too have had a bad experience with SSS....did get my $$ back though.....better choices for Savage parts/service.....

The PTA is single shot. The LRPV that I have in my shop right now is magazine fed. They may make a Single shot version. Still a loaded 300 Win Mag will not eject from a short action.

LRPV is a single shot 3 screw 4.40" RBLP .378 or .473 bolt face action, HS Precision stock, came out in 04-05(?) or so, LRP is the newer RBRP .473 only box mag repeater version. One can be easily confused for the other. Also under the impression what is commonly referred to as 'PTA' is RBRP only.

I had a short action Remington 40x chambered in a 300 WM and the case ejected just fine I don't use an ejector on my actions anyhow as I don't want to ding the necks.

The first part is correct. But the PTA is not only rbrp. It is also rblp, as I have two of them.

Agreed. My Savage PTA is RBLP.

I had a 284 Winchester barrel for it for a while. With the long 180 Hybrids, I had to remove the bolt to remove a loaded round.

Yes, don't see any reason to call anybody else but Kevin Rayhill. Excellent work, and you can pick up the phone and talk to him anytime.

Savage doesn't list anything 'PTA', I'm confused at what is being referred to as 'PTA'. Unless its a 'crackers' 'cookies' and 'snacks' thing.
