Just want to vent to like minded folks...

Like many of us, I have ideas and plans that outstrip my budget and time. Career, wife, house, 2 young boys all take a toll on time and money. Which is fine, I just take a longer path.

Well, I've had a plan to build a budget 338 Edge for a while. Scored a SST M700 RUM action before they went scarce, but the problem is primers and powder. Don't want to drop the money on dies, stock, and barrel if I can't load. Would consider a 300 PRC as well, but same scarcity issues, so no help.

So, I've shifted priorities a bit and now have my M70 30-06 getting rebarreled. All good here as I have plenty of components, but it won't be ready until July.

But, I'm getting ansy without a project... considering putting a 284 Win barrel on my Savage just for something different, and there's plenty of components for the '06 to use here. But, not really needed, and no plans to complete anywhere with it.

Anyone else had to change their plans due to the current shortage? Just shoot my 308s and be patient?

Well, I was going to build a 30 caliber something, either a WinMag or a PRC. I got a 300 WinMag rifle and took it apart for the action. I bought a stock, scope mounts, rings, and just need a barrel. Last winter I decided to put it on hold because of the reloading component shortage.

A couple days ago I was looking at barrels and reamers. I have the urge to build...but I talked myself out of ordering because, again, reloading issues. I don't really have any suitable powders and, well, we all know the situation right now.

Well I've put together supplies for years. Other than a stock from D'Arcy Echols I have parts for a 300-338 RUM switch barrel. I'm also starting on an "inexpensive" RF BR rifle for club shoots. I have a KK300 Walther barreled action, Kelbly rings, and a Don Stith uninletted RF BR stock. I'm slowly putting parts together for my Grand Daughter's AR Service Rifle for competition. No hurry on it as she can use mine.

I have a new action, an older action and two new barrels that need to be chambered. My favorite gunsmith, tho, has gone incommunicado. This Covid “shortage” has affected more than components! Anybody know where Bob Green went?

I've been wanting, a 6 XC for the last couple of years and noticed that, Remington, went Broke, last year !
I wanted, a Lefty, Rem 700 SS, short action and got lucky finding a New one, a few Months ago at, Bruno's !
Looked like, the LAST one, in the Western USA, And,.. they had, Norma 6 XC Brass, too ! So I ordered both, about the last week of December just before this, SHORTAGE Chit, hit the Fan ! Called Jim at, Northland a few Days later and NO / Nada, 1-8, 6XC Barrels, in stock ! ( and 2 Months of waitng if, I wanted one ! ) BUT they had, a 1-7.5 twist, in 6 XC a Heavy Sporter, SS, 24" so I jumped on it and IT, "shoots", the 108 Elite Hunters into, small, .3 and .4 "Cloverleaf's" with, NO load "work up", yet ! Now, If I could find me some more,.. 108 Elite's !
Just a little bit of, "Luck" to make, an ole' Guy,.. HAPPY !

Somebody said, he went Deer hunting, Months ago,.. IF,.. I remember right !
Others said he got "Covid" when he got back !
Also, " heard", that, he's "backed up" with Months of,.. "work" !
Don't know, what's,. true ???
Keep looking,.. he'll turn up !
Might talk to, Mike Bryant of, Bryant Customs, in Texas !
He's a great guy, builds AWESOME Guns for, a reasonable price and on, good, "Time frames" !

I have several, #1 on my list is gathering parts for a new rifle in 300 prc. Was suppose to be a 280 imp, but the action i wanted is unobtainable right now. Full custom which will serve two purposes. A showpiece for my relatively newly started gunshop and a hunting rig.

Second, due to the fact that I don't charge myself and its here, I finally started on an old heavily pitted winchester 1906 that has been on the back burner for some time.



I also have another action I'm not quite sure what to chamber it in.

As, a former, general Gunsmith from, the 1970's to early 1990's, I can really appreciate, the WORK going into this, Rifle ( done a few, "Pitted Job's" like it, myself ! ).
LOTS of, Hours and cramped Hands ! Nice, "job",.. ENJOY !
In a few years, I'll probably be "re-furbishing" a couple of, older Rem .22 LR Bolt rifles for my youngest grandsons ! Seems like most people, don't take good care of, their .22's,.. sadly !
