Gun locks on Winchester classic actions?

Doe's anyone know when Winchester started putting locks on their model 70 Classic action rifles ?

I'm just assuming they have them now, haven't bought a new rifle in a long time. I build all my rifles from parts, actions, barrels, triggers, etc.

I think they are called J locks.

J-lock was a Remington thing...obvious when you look at one...button looking thing with a J shaped keyhole on the shroud. I don't remember Winchester doing anything like that.

I have never seen a Winchester rifle with a locking device. All new firearms are required to have a locking device included with them when they are sold, but this is simply a cabled padlock type of device. Handguns, shotguns, rifles all have this lock included. Is it possible that this is the type of lock you are referring to? Or possibly the 3 position safety that "locks" the bolt?

No I don't mean the 3 position safety.

You sound like you understand the gun lock situation. I was under the impression that all new guns had to have some sort of "Lock" on the firearm by law at some date in the near past.. However haven't bought a new rifle in a long time, I didn't exactly know the situation.
My main consideration was the Winchester Classic rifles with CRF. I was trying to find another Model 70 Classic for a friends sons buddy. However they found one near where they live (270) so their problem no longer concerns me (thank Heaven).

Thanks for your reply and information "effendude".

All they have to have is some type of lock. Remington destroyed their firing system by integrating it. Other companies simply put a cable lock in the box
