Groundhogs and the 20 Tactical!

Got out this past Saturday to open Groundhog season a week earlier than normal......I usually give them til Memorial Day weekend to get babies up and running around to avoid shooting females early and thereby destroying by orphaning the young a bunch of future targets!! Where we went was a place that is not huntable much later than now due to weeds and cover. We were at about 2200-2500 ft elevation in rock strewn terrain with some wooded areas around. It was on the chilly side for groundhog hunting as it was 47-50 degrees, overcast and breezy.....not the most chuck friendly conditions. We accessed this area on the farmers UTV as taking the pickup to the area is not possible!! We managed to get 12 for the outing with each of us accounting for 6. I had my Cooper Model 21MTV that I just got in March along. It connected with 2 at 330 yards that were up on rocks and they were DRT......Dead Right There never even falling off the rocks when the 39 grain Sierra went home. I also got another at 335 and my short shot of the day was 265 yards. I got another at 400 and longest at 471. I was extremely pleased with the performance and can't wait to go afield again. Bobby my hunting buddy shot 4 of his 6 with his Tikka 8 twist 223 and 53 grain VMAXs and used my 20 for two of his kills at 226 yards and 310 yards. He was impressed by the 20. On another note Bobby did not wait for the season to officially open on Memorial Day!! The 6 he shot brought his total to 63 for the year so far.

Well, I knew GHD would get a hog hunt in despite the weather since he missed the annual PD hunt this year in Wyoming... I did get a call and a shot by shot description of the demise of the targets - but did not get any pictures.... but I "think" it happened!
