Ground-Up build questions,..6mm something???

I have been looking at going with a custom action for the next build. Probably will be something in the 6mmBR or dasher etc for 300-1000yds. Moreso for 500-1000yds as I havn't commited to varmint class yet.

I have been looking at the Stolle, kelby) Panda and the BAT actions. please let me know what actions you guys think are best for the 300-1000yd benchrest game in the aforementioned chamberings. Also, which features do you find to work best for you,..ie. dual port, RB/LP etc.

I would like to get this project started but do not want to end up with an action that I feel could have been something else.

Thanks for any and all info.

What game do you want to play will determine the action config.

T/R,Target Rifle) means shooting for your elbows with a sling, so R/R unless your a lefty, then L/L, so you don't have to come out of your shooting position.

F-Class, whatever turns your crank IMO.

600/1000 yd BR, in this game machine gunning is a key so being able to use both hands at the bench is a good thing, but it whatever you want and get use to IMO.

Both actions you listed are good actions, fast and smooth. The Stolle has been around the longest. It may not be the greatest for prone in the dirt. The BAT has been coming on strong in BR and LR. Steel action I think. Both would work.

I would just add that the Barnard is an excellent action for the F-class game. It comes with a very nice trigger, if you don't need a 2 oz. Let-off.

In F-Class some right-handed guys are also experimenting with a left port, left bolt. This way they hold the gun on target with their right hand and load ammo+cycle the bolt with their left. Most of us right-handers aren't used to that, but it does offer some advantages.

For bench-shooting a 6BR or 6PPC, the Stiller drop-port actions are very fast to cycle.

Thanks.

I am going to continue to shoot 600-1000yd benchrest matches, and may shoot a 300yd match or so in the varmint classes. I am using rem700's right now and have been wanting to go to a custom action. I figure I will have to learn to feed with my left hand, but that shouldn't be too big a deal.

I liked the Stolles and BAT's,....but I havn't been able to lay my hands on many of the other actions. I guess either action would have the same resale value as well as useability with similar features and boltfaces so that is a mute point.

I didn't know if anyone had any preferences as to the layout as well as either one having a feature they liked more,..i.e. bolt throw, weight, etc.
