greetings from newcomer

Hi there just thought I would take the time to introduce myself. I am Valkrider (used to ride a Honda Valkyrie motorcycle) and I have yet to fire round 1 but my friends range will be ready soon. I have played around with the rimfires for many years but I figure it's time to move up. I purchased a Savage 12bvss and mounted a Burris 6-24x50 Black Diamond scope in the signature rings on Burris bases. For my handloads I am starting with 168 SMK, RL15, CCI BR2, and Lapua brass. I will be trying various powder loads and seating depths and I will be shooting 100-300 yards to start. I know from what I have read so far that many new people can be a nuisance but, I promise to at least try to find the answers for myself first. With that said are there any 30 cal. 1:12 twist tables for MV vs bullet weight. A formula in basic algebra would also work but please keep in mind that I have not had a math class since I was 19 and that was 40 years ago. I will thank you in advance for any help. Valkrider

Twist will have less of an influence on velocity, start with your reloading manual. If you are at the range and someone has a chronograph you can ask to shoot a few rounds over it (please do not hit it) but basically your main concern is loads safe in your rifle that do not exceed the maximum charge for that manual (to start off anyway). I, personally, find the Nosler manuals closest to real world velocities than some of the others. They use a large number of powders and are very handy. It doesn't matter whether you are using their bullets or others.

hello and welcome to a great world of good people.the guys here are a great group of guys.

now with that said I to agree with watercam.the nosler books are a great place to get info and loading data.the nexted best thing is that you can use the bc charts to help out with the bullet drop.but its only an estimated listing.but it does help out from time to time.

again welcome to the site.and be safe.John

Yes I will describe the .308 opps, it is very close to the .308 win but will only fire when the gun is dropped by a clumsy person. Since I did not want to damage my new rifle I rechambered for .308 win.

welcome aboard !!

ahha...I see you have a good sense of humor...(mee toooo)...I have a 6mm "Opsa-Daisy"....it has a 28 1/2" bbl. and one day while it was in the cleaning cradle I loosend the clamp and Ooopppssss it took a tumble foreward because of the abnormally heavy muzzle weight....and over she wnt...it dinged the scope cap and the crown ((gasp)) on the bbl...but later went on to break a 600 yd NBRSA score record!! so keep grinnin and keep shootin ....Roger

PS,,,I have since rebarreled that rifle to 7mm/07 AImo ((a .280 AI variant)) since the bore is larger the bbl will have less muzzle wt.!!!!,,Grinnn
