Great scott shooters supply barrel vise

Finally was able to get one of larrys new vises and i gotta say im impressed. Got r bolted down and pulled out a "special" model seven that needed a little somethin to get it off. I have a few now and then that give me fits. So i squirted some kroil in the front base hole and got to work. This vise has the spot for the recoil lug built in instead of on the wrench like a wrap around usually does. Well at first it didnt want to come loose but then the hidden powers kicked in and it came right loose. I have used it on 4 more stubborn ones and its the same every time. This is a very nice piece of work. Now the drawbacks- this cant be your only barrel vise- it is a specialty item that you need. The v way in it is too big to grab most barrels unless youre right next to the action. If you have to locate your lug with the little tool its not gonna work unless you have a long cyl or a hogleg barrel. Thats not a problem if you know that going into it i just wanted to mention it. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure!

I have gotten lots of pm's on this vise and may need to clarify- this vise is made to remove factory barrels that are stuck. It works beautifully for that.

I used a rear entry wrench i made. Like any vise it can mar the barrels if it slipped but id say this one has less of a chance of marking than most. Its like a v block. Very sturdy and nice with good hardware. Actual studs not allthread or bolts.

If the barrel moves any at all, there will be nothing other
than a slight aluminum scuff, which can be removed w/
any good bore cleaner. I use Butches, when needed.
I have removed hundreds of barrels, w/o damage and
sold as new takeoffs. If your intent is separating 700s
either sporter or Varmint taper, this is a must have tool
to accomplish the sometimes, very difficult task. LDS

There you have it. I never care if they mark or not i dont sell or reuse factory barrels but i dont see this vise marking at all. The barrel just dont slip

Am I right in that you can't use this on actions with pinned recoil lugs? I guess you could flip the action to the other side of the vise.

The opposite side of the vise can be used if
the recoil lug capture slot isnt needed.

As far as aluminum VS Steel. Why would you use steel for a barrel vise?? If you
did, you would have to use some type of inserts to make it work, w/o damaging
your components.
This concept was invented by a friend of mine over 40yrs ago. Its tried/proven,
and does not fail to do the job. IF IT WASNT WHAT I SAY IT IS,MY NAME
WOULD NOT BE ON IT. LDS

Capturing the recoil lug either with the wrench or the vise always helps get em broke loose. Factory remington lugs are not pinned so that isnt an issue. This vise is made to remove stubborn stuck factory remington barrels. Its not made to reinstall your custom barrel with a pinned lug. The vise does exactly what its designed and marketed for.

Why cant you doubting Thomases take my word that this ALUMINUM vise works
just as I say it does. Its sole purpose is to separate 700 factory barreled actions.
It may work for other mfg, I dont know, I havent tried it.
The whole point, some have kicked my product all over the planet and YOU dont
have a clue as to how and why it works. As the saying goes, if you cant say something
nice just dont say anything at all.
I brought a new product to the table that works and right away, there are more key
board professors that know more about my tool than I do.
If it didnt work, It wouldnt be on the market w/my name on it. LDS

I don't see this chunk of aluminum giving up anything to steel in this application. If you manage to break this vise, I imagine you have bigger issues to worry about! Besides, Larry has a reputation for standing behind his stuff.

I think the reason this vice works so well is the "V". As the barrel is force into the V it gets tighter and tighter, becoming more wedged. Probably a lot more force than just "clamping" a barrel in a round shape vice. Maybe an engineer could chime in on this.

Hey Larry I just ordered one! I've dealt with Larry many times. It will be quality, and work as described! If it's not for you, so be it.

Thanks

Steve Murphy

While I don't need this vise as I mostly have BAT rifles, I did just order another Jewell trigger from Larry for my new GA Precision 308. Larry is great to deal with and is a stand up guy!
