Great F-Class Video!!! Thanks Mr. Shiraz!

.
Being a beginner F-Class shooter, who lives on a country that does not have much F-Class and not a single 1.000 yards range, this video posted on Daily Bulletin (http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2013/05/great-video-f-class-team-shooting-with-a-wind-coach/ ) is one of the best lessons I had !!!

I, and a bunch of fellow shooters from down South, will attend the US Nationals and F-Class World Championship in US this year, but we never shot on a Team and we don't know (until now) the dynamics of a Coach and his team members... this video answered a lot of questions we had!
Now, we only have about 378 more questions... ;D

And we have to find a Coach for a 4 man OPEN team until the Nationals and WFC... anyone, please? ::)

I can only imagine the time, equipment and money it took to make this video, but it would be GREAT for newcomers like me if we had a series of videos like that (showing shooter, target and wind flags at the same time!) in various conditions of wind, mirage etc.
Am I dreaming too high?

Mr. Shiraz, thank you very, very much! I hope to be able to say a thank you in person and shake your hands in August.

Mr Shiraz does Fclass a great service, hats off to that! Very forward thinking and timely. I think he can shoot too!

how the heck does one AIM 1/2 and 1 over on the target and see this precisely on the target at 1000 yards? I just don't see how with any mirage this is possible. I have a lot to learn :-[

I'm curious as to the adjustment method to the wind calls. When I shot a team match with a coach, he would call the "clicks", as in "Gimme two clicks left" or "gimme 1 click down". But it looks to me like Gary is expecting Shiraz to hold off some value in relation to his wind call.

The way we shoot team matches is that all the calls are in lines relative to center.
For example, if the coach wants you to hold on the 10 ring line on the right, the command will be "right 2", if he wants you to hold on the 8 ring line, then he would ask for "right 4". Sometimes they will ask for "right 2 1/4" if the coach has a good handle on it and he wants to hammer the "X ring".

And sometimes, just sometimes, they will give you commands such as "left about 6" off the frame" and still hit the "X ring"! - Nancy Tompkins, 2011, Team USA training session.

Clicks are never to be used as a method of adjustment. Different scopes have different click values, plus it's very inefficient and confusing.

The rings can be seen at 1000 yards. If they couldn't be seen, neither coach nor shooter would see them.

One more thing, the coach usually never tells you to click up or down unless you have put about 3 shots above or below waterline. The shooter is in charge of elevation and has to make the necessary adjustments to hold waterline.

Hope that helps.

Erik - for the US F-Open Team, the coach is completely in charge of the scope, both windage and elevation, and a shooter cannot make a change on his own, at least not without consulting with the coach.

Ah, ok that makes sense. My guess is that the coach who worked with our team assumed (rightly so in this case) that we were inexperienced enough in team shooting that we wouldn't know the calls, so just called clicks. Probably made it easier that we were all shooting scopes with 1/8 MOA clicks.

Well, cool, now I can tell him to just gimme the call.

This was a great video. Cant wait for more. I would love one for reloading.

Also, Mr.Shiraz, are you holding your rifle and laying your head on the cheek piece?
I think I seen in the video that it is recoiling back about 1/2" or less before it hits your shoulder. I kind of gave up on using these kind of stocks and rests because I didnt have a cheek piece and trying to hold your head up for 88 rounds killed my neck. So I had to go back to bipod and hard hold. Again great video and look forward to more. Now back to watch it again.

Thanks. The video did turn out well and lots of positive comments from around the world. In 3 days over 3100 people have watched it!

I am laying my face on the cheek piece. Also, the gun is firmly against my shoulder. I have never liked free recoiling any rifles, not even 6mm. Plus, free recoil is not allowed in F-Class. Could be an illusion, or could be the pad on my vest giving that visual effect. Now, I'll have to watch it again as well :)

Shiraz, let's not beat this dead horse again. We have had this discussion many times on this forum and time and time again the conclusion has been that as long as it doesn't provide a competitive advantage to one shooter over the other, it doesn't matter.

Erik - its in the rules (NRA Rule 3.4 a. 3 - "The rifle must be fired from the prone position from the shoulder of the competitor using rifle rests as defined......."

If someone wants to fire their rifle free recoil and does not believe the rule applies in the manner written, they can take that chance. Let's not turn this positive thread into a negative one - ok?

Ok, I'm not going to get into it again.

Nice video, thanks for sharing.

I'll buy your interpretation of the rule as soon as someone gets dinged at a registered match for doing so. Until then, it's ambiguous and open to interpretation, as is clear by the many, many (heated) discussions on various forums.
